Performance Problems while reading
Hi all We are using a 2 node cluster with drbd 8 (primary/primary state) and ocfs2. Reading a file on one node while it will be written on the other node is very slow. Reading a file on node while it will be written on the same node is fast. In the first case the node which wants to read the file has to ask the other to downgrade the locklevel. In my opinion this is a bottleneck, if the files are

Is 4GB memory the 64bit switch tipping point?
I am curious what should be the benchmark for making the choice of switching from 32bit to 64bit Linux? I have a few assumptions below. Is my logic sound? (This is a follow up to the "Adding RAM" thread) Assumptions: 1. 4GB Memory. The main benefit of 64bit mode is the ability to address more than 4GB of RAM. I assume that you use 64bit mode if you want to *efficiently* have

pm-utils - ATrpms updates a system package on the stable branch
I performed a clean minimal CentOS 5.2 install, fully updated the system, and then added the ATrpms repository. When I perform an update after adding the ATrpms repository, the package pm-utils is updated the the ATrpms repository. My understanding is there should not have been any updates as the stable version does not update system packages, right? "The CentOS 5/RHEL 5 repository

rebuilding kernel modules issues
I have a Tyan S3870 (K855A) motherboard which I would like to perform a burn in test with. lm_sensors needs a kernel module compiled to be support this motherboard's sensors. The instructions, for compiling the module, by tyan (ftp://ftp.tyan.com/software/lms/3870.sensors.conf) match closely with the instructions I found here (http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_centos). I

Setting Group owner of files on USB drive
I just got a 8Gb flash drive and went to copy a bunch of files onto it. I wanted to perserve everything, so I just took my archiving rsync command and altered it to go to localhost:/media/RALLY2/ (name of flash drive). I am getting errors with changing the group owner. Huh? So I try to just use mkdir to create a directory on the flash drive. The directory has a group of root ??? So I try
