Configuration woes corrected
Well after I tried it the ./configure on all machines ( 4 total)
I ran a few other compiles of other programs and figured out
what was missing. Evidently the RH62 kernel "forgets" to
put a symlink from /usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 --> asm.
I put that in and presto ./configure creates the Makefile
and I am compiling 2.0.7Pre2 as we speak.
What keyed this was trying a kernel compile,

Press Esc to cancel.
Ref#:04EC
It seems to be related to drive size/samba/fstype or something..

smbfs and i/o errors
Hi guys,
I hope I've reached the correct mailinglist. I'm experiencing a problem
with smbfs. You can mount shares, but after a while, the connection is
broken and all sorts of strange stuff happens. I've got a share called
/mnt/ntshare which remotely mounts an NT host:
[arnow@foo /mnt]$ ls
ls: ntshare: Input/output error
cdrom/ floppy/
[arnow@foo /mnt]$

How customize samba for large directory
Hi
I made some work using samba 2.0.6.
I use large directory, more than 10000 file.
The time to have a list from window NT is very big 2Minuts.
I spy a little the dialog and I see that the negociation for exange files
name is limited to 170 filenames
and a buffer to 16387 octets.
Do you know a way to change this ?
I tryed without result,
max xmit = 60000
packet size= 60000

Large file deletion on large directories
I am using a samba server for a large number of files. It is a MS VSS
database which splits it's data into a-z directories and generally in each
directory I have about 30,000 files. When trying to delete files from the
VSS client, the file deletion process is very slow, taking around 15 seconds
per file.
What is strange is that the processor loading is only at %60 during this,
the rest is in

There is a chaper on "ordinary" tuning at

machines with GREAT performance. Now in one departement i installed
samba 2.0.6 on one 40K$ IBM F50 with AIX 4.3.2, 2xCPU, 256MB RAM,
100FDX, extern RAID 5 Tower . Performance is really very, very BAD. I
tried already everything, but this IBM box with samba is just very SLOW.

domain logons across subnets
hi,
I tried to make a win95 machine to perform a domain-logon to
an NT server, which is in a diferent subnet, behind a linux-router.
on this linux-router, I also installed samba.
I noticed in log.nmbd, that the client always queries for
a "0x1c" type, but never gets a response from nmbd.
Thus , I "hacked" the "wins.dat" file, and restartet nmbd:

server allows users as non-guest with bad password
Hi y'all,
I have a little problem with Samba which I hope you can help me with. We
are running Samba 2.0.4 on a Sun Enterprise 4500 with Solaris 7. Clients
are mostly Win 9x and a few NT workstations (and one NT Terminal Server). I
have security = server (password server is the NT Terminal Server). What
happens is occasionally Samba will not let a certain user connect, saying

Samba on Linux with no ACL's is making things tough
Please for give me if this gets a bit long.
I am presently in the process of moving my company's file server from
Windows NT 4.0 over to Linux with SAMBA and the lack of ACL support in
the ext2 filesystem is making things very difficult to design. To
clarify I am NOT writing about Samba's support for NT ACL's on NTFS. I
am writing to possibly get some tips for getting around the lack

Solaris2.6/NIS+/Samba/NT-users
Hello,
I have 20 Solaris 2.6-servers with NIS+ in different cities and countries
and a lot of NT4 servers in different domains and I use samba with nis+
support
on the Solaris-enviroment to let the NT-users access their
unix-home-directories.
The NT-clients has to send their passwords in "clear-text" to access their
directories.

When I for example copy large (binary?) files from

Samba 2.0.6 Interfaces
We're had some recurring problems with nmbd's on Solaris 2.7 and Irix 6.5
failing to renew their WINS registrations in a timely manner causing the
records to become tombstoned. While we've solved it by issuing "pkill" and
"killall", respectively, of nmbd nightly from root's crontab, I wanted to
alert the authors and other administrators to the problem so similar

Smbpasswd and 20.000 users
Hello,
I have defined 20.000 users on a Samba-server. The samba-server
takes care of domain logons.
When several users try to authenticate at THE SAME time the server can't
follow:
only the first users can succesfully logon. When they don't logon
simultaneously
there's no problem.
For example: 20 users log on at exactly the same time. This situation
occurs in our
pc-rooms when
