Where to buy a db9 serial port probe
...f
trying to get NUT working and I've discovered the need for a serial port
probe that is native db9 - native db9 (the thought of hanging a probe plus
two db9-db25 adapters plus a cable on a UPS bothers me greatly). I'm not
looking for anything fancy, just a little gender changer with a buncha
LEDs on it.
However, every search for "db9/analyzer/probe/breakout/rs232" and any
combination thereof has yielded crap results except for one for $40 from
BlackBox, and quite frankly that's a bit much for a piece of hardware I'll
use ONCE.

[newbie] separating plot output from debug output
...just call something external like 'pdftk' to merge the PDFs as I go.
3 As part of the processing, I printf status and debug messages, which
I don't want in my PDF(s).
The solutions I can imagine are
1 Append to a single PDF, but I understand this is not feasible, no?
2 Create a buncha PDFs with code above, download them to my laptop,
merge them to a single PDF, upload it. Feasible but annoying and
kludgey.
3 Separate processing from plotting, e.g.,
setup # but not pdf(...)
for each part of input {
write(process1(part), intermediate)
}
pdf(...)
for each part of interm...

Just need to vent
...nsidering it defaults to monospace.
The standard GNOME monospace font is not the only good monospace font in the world.
That said, I wonder if the complainers know how good they have it? I wonder how they?d fare if sent back to the days of xfs, blocky fixed-size pixel fonts, and X font strings?
Buncha spoiled brats not appreciating their antialiased resizable sensibly-named fonts, installed by default and working out of the box. :)

model helper location
Hi,
I''m looking at the rails cookbook for uploading files[1]. At the
bottom of the page it says that the sanitize_filename functioin would
probably go in a helper or a library. I wonder where these files would
be or what they would be called. Pehaps there are some conventions I
need to know about?
Thanks,
Peter

voip
Hello.
Well I now have asterisk installed.
I've printed out the asterisk web site.
I've printed the draft Asterisk handbook V2
I've printed the Introduction to the asterisk open source pbx
Because I'm experimenting, I would like to do things in a certain order :-
1) VOIP inside the private LAN from one computer to another. e.g.
192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 etc.
2) VOIP

FreeBSD + Zaptel + Asterisk
...for quite a while now. If I get bored
enough, I'll do it myself :)
I got asterisk to build, run fine, run the demo, and do a couple other
things. My X100P card works good, it answers calls, dials calls, sounds
good/etc.
I ran into some trouble when working on un-natting my setup, and I got a
buncha weird messages from chan_sip.c about "address family not supported
by protocol family".
Given that I think we're talking about TCP+UDP, there's something up
there. I'm gonna rebuild and see what happens tomorrow.
My Setup:

If it''s any help, here''s a sed script that is reasonably good at pulling out
suspicious-looking items generated by various daemons. Fix appropriately...

Getting Samba 3 to communicate with Win2k3 ADS
I'm having a *terrible* time trying to get Samba 3 to communicate with my
Windows 2003 Active Directory Server (the primary and only domain on my
network). Basically this is what I'm trying to do: create a Linux File
Server to replace my old WinNT 4 File Server. I would like it to show up
under all my XP clients on network neighborhood just like the old server,
with each account on my
