Automatic printer download
Hallo! I am running samba-3.0.10-1.4E.11 on centOS. I want to enable the automatic printer download feature, but are running into problems. I have tried to work it out from samba by example, but since the automatic driver download is bundeled togehter with ldap (which I am not using), this does not get me anywhere. Can anyone direct me to a good howto on this - one that will make things work! I

Howto create encrypted passwords with the simple menu in pxelinux
Hallo! I am using pxelinux to boot the computers in my network. It works really nice! One thing I have not figured out is how to use encrypted passwords with the simple menu. Ofcourse it works with passwords stored in plain text, but I would really like to use securely stored passwords. I have tried to use the perl script "sha1pass" but this only ends up in a heap of error messages. I

Backup of the 5 last revisions of files
Hallo! I am running rsync-2.6.2-1.fc2.0 on fedora 2 server. I use incremental backup with rsync, and I have 7 folders that are rotated on a daily basis. At the moment I run backup only one time each day. /home-area on my server uses 18G, and all the 7 backups together fill up 19G on my usb-disk, so I think my script works okay. It looks like this: rsync -verbose -progres -a

username map
Hello! I want to permit the root account to be called administrator from the win clients in my network. Therefore I have added 'root = administrator' in my /etc/samba/smbusers. I have also added 'username map = /etc/samba/smbusers' in smb.conf. When I try to log on as administrator from a windows client I get a message that the user does not exist. I am running samba 3 on

mandatory profiles - again
Hello! Some days ago I posted a message about mandatory profiles, and got a very useful answer from John H Terpstra with reference to his Samba Guide. Suddenly logging on runs much faster.... However, I have still one more problem to solve. I have set up the win2000 client to delete the cached profile on exit. The "problem" is that the user profile remains on the server in

server smbd[23036]: Unable to get jobs for ipp://localhost/printers/[printer-n
Hallo! Sorry for posting this two times - I forgot the subject!! I am running samba 3.01012 on a fc2 server. I have problems with samba/ cups for some of my printers, and samba is filling up /var/log/messages with the following lines: -printing/print_cups.c:cups_queue_get(900) -server smbd[23036]: Unable to get jobs for ipp://localhost/printers/[printer-name] - client-error-not-found The

Multiple Default Users in \\%L\netlogon
Hallo! I am running samba version 3.01012 on a fc2 server. My network has win 2000 clients. I have by default deleted the local Default User on the clients, and instead put the Default User in \\%L\netlogon. This works nice. However, there are different branches at the school where I am running the network, and I would like machines to get a Default User profile which is specially designed for

Problems with slow printing (and name resolving?)
Hallo! I am running an centos server with samba-3.0.10-1.4E.12.2. I have configured this to be a print server with automatic driver download. This has been runnig well for some time, but suddenly it seems like the name resolution is corrupted. If you click 'file -> print' or 'start -> printers and telefaxes' everything stops for about 30 seconds before the windows pos up.

mandatory profiles
Hello! I am running samba 3.0 on fc2 in a win2000 network. I want to use only mandatory profiles in the network, but can't get this to work properly. I have set up a "perfect user" on my local machine", and copied this profile to \\server\netlogon\Default User. I have also made this default profile mandatory by renaming ntuser.dat to ntuser.man. In smb.conf I have added:
