Where to see a printer...
I installed a printer, HP DeskJet 6122, which has no Ethernet device inside. In Windows, I use a local port with address \\darkstar\hp6122. The printer work, but I can see it only in Windows menu "Fax and Printers", not in the share resource of Samba, even if I set my smb.conf with "load printers" and, in [printers]. "browseable = yes" Is it all ok? Thanx M. --

Shared printers are shown up only after 15 minutes on the Windows clients
...kes 15 minutes now until all shared printers are shown up on the Windows clients, after our server has started. Although this is not a big problem, because our server is running 24 hours a day, i wan't to fix this. :-) The CUPS error log says: [11/Jun/2016:14:44:39 +0200] Unknown directive BrowseAddress on line 9 of /etc/cups/cupsd.conf. When i look into cupsd.conf the line 9 looks like this: BrowseAddress @LOCAL There is also an entry in log.smbd: [2016/06/11 15:10:05.421844, 0] ../source3/param/loadparm.c:3217(process_usershare_file) process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usersha...

Printing with CUPS & Samba...
I am trying to print from both a Win98 PC via Samba and a Red Hat 8.0 workstation to an HP 4 Plus printer that is connected to a Red Hat 8.0 server. I have managed to get the Win98 PC working OK, but am having difficulty with the RH8 workstation. I set the printer up using a browser with <Server>:631, calling it HP4Plus, and I can send a test print from the browser on the RH8 box via

Problems adding a printer share
I have added an HP Deskjet 600 to my debian etch system, using CUPS. It is working fine. I would like to set it up so that I can occassionally print to it from a Windows 9x machine. This is where I seem to be having trouble. I consulted the HOW-TO docs on the samba site, but they are quite detailed and confusing (for me). I don't want to do anything that will cause the printer to work
