Recommendations for consumer-grafe GPSes?
2. Recommendations? My use case is pretty typical. I have one Linux machine I want to protect, automated shutown is desirable, blackouts longer than a hour are very rare at my location (the last one I can remember was in 1993), brownouts are very rare and mild, but summer thunderstorms are common and can be severe. I'm a good match for your typical consmer-grade UPS. 2a. In 2009, what do you recommend in a consumer-grade GPS? -- Eric S. Raymond Freedom, morali...

PROM vbios fetching issues
...m 0 to 13. I see no consistency in this. I tried reading the vbios 32 bits by 32 bits (instead of 8 by 8), disabling local IRQs and generating more activity on the PCIe port before fetching (and making sure the value read is always the same), all solutions yielded no improvement. It could be a brownout problem but this would be the only manifestation of this problem. Moreover, some cards are known to have problems with PROM[2] so mine is definitely not the only one. I'm at a loss here, should we wait on anything before reading from PROM? The mmiotrace I have doesn't seem to suggest we...

several problems with Powercom BNT-500AP
...hat battery should be replaced, but I have tested it by removing the power and it can supply about 170 W for about 20 minutes, which, according to specifications, is OK. 3. NUT very frequently (about 10 times a day) goes on battery followed by immediate return to utility power, though there are no brownouts. My PC that isn?t connected to UPS doesn?t reboot. 4. This is the most bothering. I have seen it only once. NUT reported ?on battery? (actually there was no brownout) followed by immediate ?battery is low?, that triggered shutdown of pi. Apologies for the outage
...and web server, suffered filesystem corruption in the past few days and was oopsing on some CVS operations and mail archive searches. Earlier today I took the box down and ran four hours of diagnostics; nothing unusual found. It's possible there was a media error in swap, the box got hit by a brownout, whatever. I'll be keeping an eye on it. The root partition salvaged without major errors, so I did not restore from backup. Should you notice any CVS inconsistencies left over from the outage, please let me know. Monty --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg proj...

APC UPS wrong input voltage
Folks, I've asked this question on the FreeNAS forum but there are no ideas there as it looks like it's a NUT issue. Original question: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/apc-ups-reporting-wrong-input-voltage.60888/ the nut driver is reporting the wrong input voltage. I am in the UK, 230V but it's reporting circa 108. If I connect it to the laptop and run powerchute it

Bogus shutdown
Nut shut down a machine last night when there was no power outage. When I came in this morning, the UPS was turned off, but it turned on cleanly and passed its self-test. The battery was at 62% when I first checked it, and it's up to 63% now, about 20 minutes later. The UPS is a Tripp-Lite AVR550U. I'm running nut version 2.0.3. I expect to be told to update to a newer version and to

Power Cut
But the site is far remote and having alert on battery exhaustion can no longer help . As I said before , I am suspicious if it comes from frequent power cuts so seeking some means to distinguish it among the system logs. Crash Hard, Crash Often
I've been using asterisk for 3+ years now, I love it, but it doesnt love me back. :-) It was crashing frequently and seemingly randomly prior to this latest upgrade. Not sure what version it was running prior to upgrade (it was probably an old CVS HEAD from 2+ years go.) Anyway, currently running 1.4.21.2. == Problem == Problem is that its crashing for seemingly no reason at all, no

Proposal: ZFS Hot Spare support
As mentioned last night, we''ve been reviewing a proposal for hot spare support in ZFS. Below you can find a current draft of the proposed interfaces. This has not yet been submitted for ARC review, but comments are welcome. Note that this does not include any enhanced FMA diagnosis to determine when a device is "faulted". This will come in a follow-on project, of which some
