Really bad Read performance
Running Samba 2.2.7, compiled with LDAP support. I'm suffering from really poor read performance problems on the server. Write speed is fine (after adding "interface = <ip of eth0>/24"), giving about 4.4 MB/s. However, reading files from the samba shares is just not usable. Reading a large (34 MB) file from the server takes more than 3 minutes on a W2K Pro client. NIC on both

Selecting closest values
Hi I have a table with ID (1 to 183) and Location (144 to -22). My problem is that I want to select the 10 ID's that are closest in Location to ID 1, ID 2 and so on. Also, some ID have the same Location. Say, if 11 ID's are closest to ID 100 I want to randomly choose one of the ID's to select 10 ID's total. Thank you -- View this message in context:

Reconstruct disklabel for UFS and GELI volumes
Hi, Somehow[TM] an installation of 4.11 to ad0s3 managed to wipe out my existing disklabel for 7.0 on ad0s4. I now need to recover the disklabel to get my system to boot! There were three labels - ad0s4a: UFS, exact size unknown. Is it possible to infer this from the UFS partition size? I can mount this already, as I simply wrote an 'a' label of maximum size to the disklabel - ad0s4b:

uchcom and RELENG_7?
Hi, Is there any reason why uchcom[1] hasn't been MFC'ed to RELENG_7 yet? I see discussion[2] about this subject as far back as around 7.0-release, but I can't find any uchcom.c files in my src, not even for latest RELENG_7. References: 1) http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=uchcom&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+8-current&format=html 2)

R won't start
Hi, I have a problem with R; it won't start! I've installed it fine, no problems, but when I try to run it the mouse cursor changes to an hourglass for 1 second and back to normal, and that's it, it doesn't start up. No error messages or nothing. I run Windows XP Pro. by the way. I'd be thankful for any help. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Silence supression
Hello all! First of all, this is my first post to the list. I've tried to find my answers in the forums and by Googling , but no luck. My apologies if this question has been answered before. I've set up an Asterisk box with four local SIP users. The Asterisk box uses a SIP provider for placing external calls and receiving incoming calls as well. In other words, there's no PSTN

FreeBSD 6.3-stable and if_re - stability problems?
Hello! Is anybody having stability problems with if_re under FreeBSD 6.3-stable? I know about PR kern/118719[1] but it doesn't look like the problem I'm having - at least my machine doesn't panic. My machine[2] runs FreeBSD 6.3-stable / amd64: root@kg-vm# uname -a FreeBSD kg-vm.kg4.no 6.3-STABLE FreeBSD 6.3-STABLE #1: Sun Jan 27 02:10:15 CET 2008

7.0 issues fixed? upgrade timing?
1. I have a realtek network card and am using a cable modem router. Does anyone know if fixes for problems with these (see below) have been backported from HEAD to RELENG_7? 2. Is this a good time to upgrade to RELENG_7? 3. I read a post last week that advised that 7.1 is a long way off. Appreciate any advice on use of ULE 3.0 and ZFS prior to 7.1 and a comment on what is holding up 7.1. Thanks

Missing .so libraries for DLL files
Hi. I'm trying to get this PS2 ISO generator to work. It requires the DLL:s mfc42.dll and mfc42loc.dll---hence I got them and placed them in ~/.wine/hdd/windows/system. Now it's complaining about missing .so libraries for the builtin DLL:s. I have this in the config: "mfc42" = "builtin, native" "mfc42loc" = "builtin, native"

packet loss with re(4)
With FreeBSD 6.3-RELEASE, I'm finding significant packet loss (sometimes 85%). If I insert an Intel nic (fxp), there is nil packet loss with similar tests (ping -c 100). re0: <RealTek 8168/8111B PCIe Gigabit Ethernet> port 0xc800-0xc8ff mem 0xf9fff000-0xf9ffffff irq 17 at device 0.0 on pci1 I have seen a thread on current mentioning similar problems:

FreeBSD 9.0 - GPT boot problems?
Hi, I just installed FreeBSD 9.0-release / amd64 on a new machine (Acer Aspire X1470). I installed from a usb memory stick (the default amd64 image), which I booted by pressing "F12" and selecting it from the boot menu on the machine. I installed on a SSD (which replaced the hard drive originally in the machine), using the default scheme for 9.0 (GPT). The installation was painless (many

floppy disk controller broken
Hello, when testing FreeBSD-7.1-BETA i discovered that the floppy disk controller doesn't work correctly. Trying to format a floppy (perhaps with bad blocks) i get: Processing fdformat: ioctl(FD_FORM): Device not configured instead of the normal E letter. I then checked the same problem is present on FreeBSD-6.3 and it has been reported by Beech Rintoul (*) in 2006! Of course the floppy disk

Odd behavior in FreeBSD port---HELP!
Hi! I'm using FreeBSD 4.7-STABLE with port version 2003.01.15 of WINE. Strange things are happening though: 1) When my configuration file is ~/.wine/config, I get the error: wineserver: /home/johann/.wine/config is not a valid registry file 2) When I move it to ~/.winerc, I get: Warning: no valid DOS drive found, check your configuration file. Warning: could not find wine config

The strangest problem..
My problem is that I suddenly can't access my linux samba shares from XP or 98. It's worked all week and now - nothing. This also happened about one week ago, then returned to normal function almost by random. I can see the NetBIOS name in the correct workgroup, but not browse it or access any of its shares directly (\\linux\data for instance). I am running my network with a Cisco ADSL
