Obtaining a newer Broadcomm (bcm43xx) driver for CentOS 5
I'm using CentOS 5 (w/all latest updates as of 2008-01-06) on an HP
laptop -- in fact, the exact laptop described here:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/HP/Pavilion-ze5300_Series
Ever since I switched from SHARED to OPEN authentication (and hence
from using ndiswrapper to the bcm43xx module, as explained on that
wiki page), I've been having packet loss and/or collision on the

Issue with domU RX throughput
...e NIC on the machine is 1GE.
What puzzles me is, some instances of domU (with same config) is able to
achieve almost 1Gbps RX throughput. And this seem to be very random.
I am running Debian stable (Squeeze) with standard Xen packages,
and standard network setup with linux bridging module. NIC is Broadcomm
BCM5764M GE.
Please let me know, if more information on configuration/tests is required.
Thanks,
Shoban

Best Board Your Ever Ran CentOS On?
...f very
high quality. http://news.com.com/2100-1032_3-5875433.html
I have chosen to follow the same logic, or at least continue down the
path of those before me that made this choice.
From my view, my CentOS machines that never break, run happiest on
AMD-friendly boards, with older onboard Broadcomm GBnics that support
NIC bonding and handle excess internet & internal snmp (cacti & nagios)
traffic without blowing up.
I can rave about Crucial (Micron) RAM, and AMD Opteron CPU's, and
Seagate & Fujitsu SCSI SCA 80 pin drives, Chenbro 2U rackmount 6* SCA
cases, Zippy redundan...

Centos on Dell XPS15
...the screen myself. Not a big deal. Then I
can watch Twitch using it like a tablet.
I'd check the XPS 15's wifi module before buying it. The Inspiron 13 I
have has Atheros, which doesn't require a proprietary binary driver.
Intel's are even better. I know sometimes Dell throws in Broadcomm wifi
modules, which require the proprietary wl driver.

OT: 1gigabit Nics
Begging indulgence of the list - asking here because due
to the higher likelyhood of getting an answer...
I have an application that often loses connection from one machine
to another when one (or more) of the machines has particular
brands of 1gig nics, but which runs rock solid when on 10meg
nics and some 1 gig nics.
The application senses (falsely) that the connection has been shut down

Nasty kernel panic
I have seen the following kernel panic 5 times today on
three different machines, two of which had been stable
for months and one of which is a brand new install.
We are running the x86_64 xen kernel and userland tools that came in the
Xen 3.1.0
tarball from xen.org, on top of scientific linux (redhat clone)
5.1 or 5.2.

HELP! SNV_97,98,99 zfs with iscsitadm and VMWare!
I''m not sure if this is a problem with the iscsitarget or zfs. I''d greatly appreciate it if it gets moved to the proper list.
Well I''m just about out of ideas on what might be wrong..
Quick history:
I installed OS 2008.05 when it was SNV_86 to try out ZFS with VMWare. Found out that multilun''s were being treated as multipaths so waited till SNV_94 came out to
