Samba4 and 0.0.0.0:137 and 0.0.0.0:138 opened, why ? How do close it ?
Thanks for this answer. As I understood, for example if parameter bind interfaces only = yes is and interfaces = lan0 (192.168.0.254) is and if broadcast packet goes from 95.95.95.14 such packet will be dropped (in other words) ? Am I right ? And other thing. Why is 192.168.0.255 (network broadcast) opened for ? May be exact such address (network broadcast) is inbtended for receiving broadcasts ? Within exact subnet but 0.0.0.0 is for all subnets ?...

"remote announce": system broadcast addresses can't differ still?
We have 4 class C networks, 199.129.206.* 199.129.207.* 199.129.208.* 199.129.209.* I see IP addresses from all 4 classes thru tcpdump. Some of these computers broadcast as C-class computers; eg, to 199.129.206.255 Some broadcast to 255.255.255.255 Of course, several C class networks would induce me to use a B-class broadcast, 199.129.255.255 This works for the computers I work with! Unfortunately, I don't exactly have permission to change their broadc...

Port forwarding/DNAT of broadcast packets?
Hi folks, Has anyone out there done port forwarding or DNAT for UDP packets that are normally sent to the broadcast address (255.255.255.255)? I have to support a nasty database application called FileMaker Pro (those of you who know it are probably groaning about now), which uses broadcasts to locate the database server. Theoretically, i can get around this requirement by using LDAP lookups (and this works on...

finding broadcast addresses.
I'm having trouble with my samba implementation and have determined it's broadcast addresses are not matching. but just figuring out what win2000 is using for it's broadcast hasnt been so easy. I'm using 10.11/16. the server is at 10.11.0.2 with broadcast 10.11.255.255. the clients get 10.11.2.* from dhcp which also is also set to tell them to use 10.11.255.255 for...

tools for broadcasting
Hi all, I'm sending this to both lists because I want to know what both sides of the conversation think about this. For those of you on the icecast list, can I have a recommendation on the right tool to broadcast with? If you like, I'll send you my prerecorded shows, just tell me what the best way to send those is. For the audacity list now, would it be possible to develop a broadcasting tool for Audasity? I can see how it would mostly work, but there is one problem. How I see it working is that I start...

broadcast from domain-0 not reaching guest
Hello, I got Xen working on my machine using the packages that come with Fedora Core 4, but I got one problem: broadcast packages sent from Domain-0 will not reach the guest os. The rest seems to work perfectly. broadcast from guest reaches LAN. broadcast from LAN(but not Domain-0) reaches guest. Does anybody know how to get this working? Question over broadcasting using icecast server
...want to apologize in case this message should not be in this list but i believe this is the place to answer my question. I know only a little about icecast server. I would like to build up a live radio station. The concept is something like : the server is set up in some place and all producers broadcast themselves from their place, so there is no common studio for every one in the radio station (maybe producers don't even know each other and live in totally diferrent places). The question is how to change from one producer to the next one when the first finishes his/her broadcast ? For exa...

Ok, the first is more or less what I thought (and what i need), mix them together in the "local" studio (where will exist the broadcast server, too) mmm ... but I confused with "... mount as a source a...

Q: Is it possible?
...sh NGO and we're planning to set up an Internet radio station. I would like to base our project on linux and Icecast / liveice (right?) but I don't understand some terms of "radio" practices. I need your experience&help; the project should cover the following scenarios: * A broadcast server on spain with a local speaker * A broadcast server on spain and remote speaker (possibly through long distances. For example, the broadcast on spain and the speaker from Honduras ) * A broadcast server on spain and remote collaboration with some speakers ( the local speaker collaborating on...
