winbind creating duplicate users
...ne for a while. However, recently i noticed that winbind began storing additional UID to SID mappings for members of the local domain in LDAP. So when i ran e.g. 'getent passwd | grep brightstop' i would get 2 entries for the 1 user account, 1 resolved from LDAP, the other from winbind brightstor:x:5586:513:System User:/home/brightstor:/bin/false brightstor:x:10168:513:Brightstor:/home/CEL/brightstor:/bin/false This occurs for some accounts but not others: pdbedit on this account returns : [root@teddc etc]# pdbedit -Lv brightstor init_sam_from_ldap: Entry found for user: brightstor Unix u...

AW: Re: samba-3.0.10-1.4E (RHEL4); Invalid key XXX given to dptr_close
Fabian, Fast explains. On the NT server work BrightStore with version r9, more highly does not go because of NT. On the REHL4 side works (worked) BrightStore Linux Client r11.5. Smaller version does not work goes because of RHEL4. BrightStore servers r9 and Linux Client r11.5 are not compatible unfortunately. I must now decide everything with the versi...

2 httpd configs
I normally don't do this - haven't got any traction on taroon list and I want to get a backup going. I have an RHEL 3 server and it is serving some simple web stuff (horde/imp/etc.) I have installed BrightStor ArcServe and I need it to also serve some web pages. The ArcServe runs on a different port but has it's own httpd.conf with the distribution. The last time I did it, it was the only web pages I needed to serve on the system so it was easy enough to just replace the default /etc/httpd/conf/http...

Archive bit oddities
...g no luck in getting the behavior of the archive bit to be anywhere near expected. I have the file foo.txt in the personal folder that has the ADS group DOMAIN USERS with read/write capability (660). When the user jsmith (domain user) modifies the file, the archive bit is not set. Similarly, CA Brightstor seems incapable of clearing the archive bit when doing backups if the backup user is not the owner. It seems to come down to this--if the user isn't the owner, the archive bit cannot be automagically cleared by applications. The user can manually set and clear, but that doesn't help. A...

Veritas Backup Exec 8.6 & Samba: Take Two!
...nd 3.x that caused Backup Exec to choke. I will add that I sometimes got other interesting errors on the NT side, with Samba 3.x on the BSD side, like 'The Remote Procedure Call Failed' or 'The Handle is Invalid.' I've also tried other backup software. Computer Associates 'Brightstor ARCServe' 9.x package works fine no matter what the Samba version is, but I didn't like the way CA did their UI, nor was I fond of the program's reluctance to sequence to the next tape cartridge in line, and the resultant self-aborting of the backup job, if the first cartridge it loaded...

Tape drive recommendations
Hello all. I have 15 or so CentOS servers (now v4.4, I will upgrade them all to 5 when it comes out) and a few windows machines. I am looking to implement a network backup solution using Amanda. I will be backing up 200 gig or so to start, but that will grow. Does anyone have any recommendations on tape drives that will work "out of the box" with CentOS? Thanks, Joe
