trouble parsing a date using strptime()
Hi,
I am having a trouble parsing dates using strptime() that I get in the
format of year and week number. The data looks like this "201127" which
means year 2011 and week 27. I would like to graph this using ggplot but
then I get a gap between 201054 and 201101 so I thought I would just easily
convert it.
I tried to use strptime and as.Date and the format string of %Y%W but it

df <- as.data.frame(matrix(1:20, nrow=5))

boot with strata: strata argument ignored?
Hello All. I must be missing the really obvious here:
mm <- function(d, i) median(d[i])
b1 <- boot(gravity$g, mm, R = 1000)
b1
b2 <- boot(gravity$g, mm, R = 1000, strata = gravity$series)
b2
Both b1 and b2 seem to have done (almost) the same thing, but it looks like
the strata argument in b2 has been ignored. However, str(b1) vs str(b2)
does show that the strata have been noted

Unexpected behaviour with download.packages on Windows
If no 'type' is specified, download.packages("pkgname") will download source packages (.tar.gz files), even on Windows. However, the help says
type character string, indicate which type of packages: see install.packages.
and on Windows, install.packages defaults to downloading binary packages.
Is this intended behaviour on the part of download.packages? This is on R

plm issues: error for "within" or "random", but not for "pooling"
Dear all
I am working on unbalanced panel data and I can readily fit a
"pooling" model using plm(), but not a "within" or "random" model.
Reproducing the examples in vignette("plm") and in the AER package I
encountered no such issues.

ggplot2, geom_hline and facet_grid
Hi
I have a long data set on which I want to do Bland-Altman style plots for each rhythm type
Using ggplot2, when I use geom_hline with facet_grid I get an extra set of empty panels.
I can't get it to do it with the "Diamonds" data supplied with the package so here is a (much abbreviated) example:

vcd package --- change layout of plot
Hello,
I'm trying to use the vcd package to analyze survey data. Expert judges
ranked possible features for product packaging. Seven features were
listed, and 19 judges split between 2 cities ranked them.
The following code (1) works, but the side-by-side plots for Cities PX,
SF are shrunk too much. Stacking PX on top of SF would make for a
better plot. (I could switch the order of

I can reproduce the error on a modified example from the vignette:

Hello, All:
The fda package has tests that run too long for CRAN's current
rules. I'd like to wrap some examples in a construct like the following:
if(!CRAN()){

I tried the following:
CRAN <- function(x='_R_CHECK_CRAN_INCOMING_'){
x. <- Sys.getenv(x)
xl <- as.logical(x.)
notCRAN <- is.na(xl) || xl
