Is DTrace Vulnerable?
There is a Slashdot discussion today titled "Cambridge Researcher Breaks OpenBSD Systrace". Slashdot anonymous member has a comment "Even Sun''s Dtrace might be vulnerable." I don''t think it is. Using same ZFS under different kernel versions
I build two zfs filesystems using b29 (from brandz). I then re-installed solaris express b28, preserving the zfs filesystems. When I tried to "zpool import" my zfs filesystems I got a kernel panic: > debugging crash dump vmcore.0 (32-bit) from blackbird > operating system: 5.11 snv_28 (i86pc) > panic message: > ZFS: bad chec...

Slashdot: Building A Web-And Mail Server With CentOS 4.3
I may not agree with everything they say, such as ISPConfig (I prefer webmin) but this tutorial offers a "step by step opportunity for newbies". Does this indicate that CentOS is now a "mainstream" distro? (Technically speaking its not CentOS 4.3 but CentOS 4 Update 3 but we are not into semantics). Homegrown Hybrid Storage
Hi, I''m looking to build a virtualized web hosting server environment accessing files on a hybrid storage SAN. I was looking at using the Sun X-Fire x4540 with the following configuration: - 6 RAID-Z vdevs with one hot spare each (all 500GB 7200RPM SATA drives) - 2 Intel X-25 32GB SSD''s as a mirrored ZIL - 4 Intel X-25 64GB SSD''s as the L2ARC. -

DTrace as a security tool / http://systrace.org
I''d like to see if we can use DTrace to as the kernel implementation of the BSD systrace security policy system (http://www.systrace.org). I don''t really want to port systrace to Solaris because I think with DTrace we already have all the necessary in kernel hooks to do this. With systrace you express things like: "httpd can bind to port 80 but not any other port, it

zfs: zvols minor #''s changing and causing probs w/ volumes
Team, **Please respond to me and my coworker listed in the Cc, since neither one of us are on this alias** QUICK PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Cu created a dataset which contains all the zvols for a particular zone. The zone is then given access to all the zvols in the dataset using a match statement in the zoneconfig (see long problem description for details). After the initial boot of the zone
