NHW codec
...s very hard for your codec to not catch attention and
don't have answers, but what is even harder is that I find the NHW codec
still competitive (even in its current state).
For example, I have made a visual comparison for mid compression (-l2 to
-h2 setting) on 50 images of the NHW codec with BPG (HEVC intra), WebP, and
Rududu Image Compression (Rududu is a powerful wavelet image codec,
released in April 2008, that is based on SPIHT-like, zerotree coding, -it
totally went under-the-radar...-).
Results: The codec that has the more precision is BPG, the codec that has
the more neatness is NH...

NHW Project - speed measurement 2 - very high compression
Hello,
If it could be of interest, here are new speed measurement for -l13 very
high compression setting.
For x265 (HEVC), I use BPG codec, and this time I use -m 0 setting which
uses the fastest encoding setting of x265.I run the .exe 10x times and I
pick the best scores.
So here are the timings at -l13 very high compression:
Encode time: x265 (BPG -m 0): 80ms NHW: 20ms
Decode time: x265 (BPG): 90ms NHW: 10ms
So with an eq...

NHW Project - paid development
...have all the skills to improve
it, notably in machine learning and neural networks.
The task I am blocking on is to code good lower quality settings.I am now
ok to give $1000 to who will code good lower quality settings in the NHW
codec. But there are some conditions, it must be :
-competitive with BPG (HEVC intra), except maybe for very high compression,
as the current mid quality settings are competitive with HEVC.
-royalty-free and patent-free, so it will prevent from using treillis
quantization for example, a lot of inter-band similarities & processing is
(heavily) patented by SPIHT,... I...

NHW Project - good quality improvement & encoding speed improvement
...igh compression!
I have also improved encoding speed (C optimizations).
More at: http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/
We can still save 2.5KB per .nhw compressed files.
I wanted to correct my last speed measurement, with the same level of
optimization, the NHW Project is at least 20x faster to encode (bpgenc -m
0) or at least 52x time faster to encode (bpgenc -m 7) and at least 15x
faster to decode than x265 BPG (optimized HEVC).
Many thanks and Happy New Year!!!
Cheers,
Raphael

ldAIX4 does not generate Rlapack.exp (PR#2893)

OS: AIX 4.3.3

src/modules/lapack/Makefile executes the tools/ldAIX4 script and supplies,

Bad unaligned kernel access with ext3 0.8.0
Hello!
This is Kernel 2.4.6-ac1 with ext3-0.8.0 compiled with cvs-gcc
version 3.1 20010616 on alpha ev4.
I have prepared one ext3 filesystem to play with. When my rc-scripts call
mount -a during boot I receive this:
Jul 6 22:01:30 Marvin kernel: Bad unaligned kernel access at fffffc0000883f54: fffffc00063f2e6e 2a 2
and the mount of this filesystem fails. A subsequent manual second try to

NHW codec - progress 2
Hello,
Just a quick message to correct what I have said in my previous post.It
finally seems not that easy to code small wavelet coefficients to have a
good precision, and SPIHT is certainly a very good algorithm for that, -and
I know there are SPIHT experts that can make very good SPIHT-based
codecs-.I have chosen a new and different approach, the multistage residual
coding, so I will try to

Forwarding and Sub Zone

It appears that the above rule that forwards that lan traffic to the fire=

of lan, I don''t know how to make this work. If someone has any ideas, pl=

Reflections on Trusting Trust
or "How do I know my copy of FreeBSD is the same as yours?"
I have recently been meditating on the issue of validating X.509
root certificates. An obvious extension to that is validating
FreeBSD itself.
Under "The Cutting Edge", the handbook lists 3 methods of
synchronising your personal copy of FreeBSD with the Project's copy:
Anonymous CVS, CTM and CVSup. There are

SELinux - way of the future or good idea but !!!
Hi,
total newbie on CentOS. Just firing up an install of 5.5 on a development webserver. Installed Webmin, Awstats, PHPMyAdmin and Drupal successfully. Yet to work on Sendmail and Samba. SELinux in enforcing mode, reporting "SELinux preventing ifconfig (ifconfig_t) "read write" to /var/webminsessiondb.pag (var_t)".
Googled the error message without real success in finding fix

gjournal on 6.x wont build
Hi all,
I was intending on trying out gjournal on a new disk i've added in my
desktop. I had a look to see what the most recent patch provided by
Pawel and found
http://people.freebsd.org/~pjd/patches/gjournal6_20061024.patch
I created the directories as per Pawel's original post
(http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-fs/2006-June/001962.html)
and the patch succeeded with no failed

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list.
I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without
modifications.
How did I try it?
Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock )
Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a
rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee
prep-out.log
The build failed at the end:
