newbie about how to route
I have 2 linux boxes connected to a switch:
box1:
eth0 192.168.0.200/255.255.255.0
eth1 public address from ISP dhcp
box2:
eth0 192.168.0.35/255.255.255.0
box3:
eth0 192.168.1.3/255.255.255.0
I want box1 to act as a gateway to the internet
(it is doing this now for box2),
but also want to communicate from box2 to box3 through box1,
and that box3 can use the internet through box1.
how can I do this?
TIA,

Samba and NFS

AFAIK The answers are roughly the following:
The difference between Samba and NFS is primarily that Samba uses the SMB
(aka Lanmanager) protocol which is considered "standard" for PCs (Windows
and OS/2 both have built in support for it, a free client is also available

Kernel density estimate plot for 3-dimensional data
Hi!
I have a problem with Kernel density estimate plot for 3-dimensional data in ks-package.
Here the example:
# load ks, spatstat
# three-dimensional kernel density of B
B <- pp3(runif(300), runif(300), runif(300), box3(c(0,1)))
x <- unclass(B$data)$df
H <- Hpi(x)
fhat <- kde(x, H=H)
plot(fhat)
plot(fhat, axes=FALSE, box=FALSE, drawpoints=TRUE); axes3d(c('x','y','z'))
If I try to insert my own coordinates instead of the artificial 3D-pattern, it does not work.
It would be great, i...

scp local/remote external calls
I'm a bit confused how scp works... could someone please explain the
local/remote external calls that happen when scp is started... in
particular how it relates to ssh on the remote site?
To be more specific...
I use Kerberos for authentication and I've been working on an ssh wrapper
script that checks my Kerberos credentials before running the ssh command.
If the credentials are

Dual T400P, SMP, performance issues
...gateway PRI <-> SIP with two
T400P (8 T1s) per box. The first
experience with BOX1 (Compaq, 2.53 GHz, 1 Gb RAM) and just one T400P was
encouraging - on the load
test with 3 T1s worth of calls we had on average 75% idle CPU.
Not so with BOX2 (Dell, single 2.6 GHz Xeon, 1 Gb RAM, 2 T400P) and BOX3
(Dell, dual 2.6 GHz Xeon,
2 Gb RAM, 2 T400P, asterisk/zaptel is built with SMP support).
On the similar load test (as with the BOX1) BOX2 was showing 0% idle CPU 70%
of the time. Just 3 T1s
out of 8.
On the load test with just 2 T1s BOX3 was very close to 0% idle on CPU0,
CPU1 was at 95% idle.

Worked nice, the IAX transcoded the codec to GSM, which worked lovely, voice
was clear and crispy. Works very nice!!!
3. SJPhone/SIP -> Box1/SIP -> Box1/IAX2 -> Box2/IAX2 -> Box2/H323 -> Box3/H323

Worked half way only. Call was terminated nicely to the mobile phone, while
the voice traversed from the mobile phone to the SJphone, the SJphone was
unable to send the voice back to the mobile phone. I've noticed the
following: the codec between SJph...

Idea for feature recursive ssh: "scp file user1@gateway:user2@server:"
[I sent this email to the list in January but haven't seen it appear.
Maybe it didn't get through moderation?]
How many times have I typed in one window
ssh -L 8022:server:22 user1 at gateway
only so that I can type (in another window!)
scp -P 8022 file user2 at localhost:
This is a pain:
* cumbersome
* requires two commands windows
* confuses ssh's host key

effect function (effects package)
Dear all,
How does the effect() function in the effects package calculate effects and standard errors for glm quasipoisson models? I was using effect() to calculate the impact of increasing x to e + epsilon, and then finding the expected percent change. I thought that this effect (as a percentage) should be exp(beta*epsilon), where beta is the appropriate coefficient from the model, but

Active Directory authentication no longer works
Hello all,
I have 3 Linux boxes all authenticating against 2 Windows 2003 domain
controllers. Each Linux box is running a different Linux and samba version:
Box1: CentOS 3.4 3.0.25-7
Box2: CentOS 4.4 3.0.10-1
Box3: CentOS 5 3.0.23c-2
Their smb.conf and krb5.conf files are all identical (below). A few days
ago authentication stopped working and my /var/log/messages fills up
with "signing_good: BAD SIG: seq 1" and "SMB Signature verification
failed on incoming packet!" errors. When someo...

The variable TRANSFERSTATUS report SUCCESS but the call isn't trasfered.
I haven't other information, in console I see only hangup of a channel.
My scenario is 3 asterisk box connected with iax trunk, I talk from BOX1
to BOX2 and I want to transfer user on BOX2 to another user on BOX3.
After transfer command is executed on BOX1 (return SUCCESS) on other BOX
I don't see nothing. Only hangup.
There are some way to debug the transfer?
Thanks Pasqu.

Authentication problem?
...st samba activity is between the Mdk boxes, file-moving, etc.
Versions - Mandrake 10.0, with all updates applied, Samba 3.0.6-4.1
I had a properly working lan, with occasional problems between box1 and box2
(Mdk boxes). Now I have no connection between them, for file-sharing
purposes, at all. Box3, another Mdk box, uses box1 as print server, and has
no problems in printing, but has the same problem as box2 for file sharing.
Scenario -
Box2 uses LinNeighborhood to attempt to connect to box1.
A mount appears in the lower window of LN.
It is not possible to browse that mount
The mount will no...

Bug#511959: klibc-utils: ipconfig times out when several machines boot at the very same time

I'd be glad to be kept in Cc since I don't follow that list, thanks

Browsing between linux boxes
My problem appears to be too simple to be addressed in the documentation,
being a linux-to-linux problem. This is a mixed home lan, but the majority
of file sharing is done between three linux boxes. All three have a public
directory, but the one on box1 is mainly used for file sharing. All of this
worked well with our old Samba 2 setup, but has now gone to pieces. Two of
the boxes are

[PATCH 0/9] tools: remove or disable old/useless/unused/unmainted stuff
depends on "autoconf: regenerate configure scripts with 4.4 version"
This series removes some of the really old deadwood from the tools build
and makes some other things which are on their way out configurable at
build time with a default depending on how far down the slope I judge
them to be.
* nuke in tree copy of libaio
* nuke obsolete tools: xsview, miniterm, lomount & sv
