Icecast behind firewall
Hey List!
I am in the process of moving an icecast2 server from a serve in an R&D lab to a virtual machine in the main server area. The servers are both running Debian sarge and are configured identically for icecast minus the bind address and the hostnames. When I try and start the icecast server, using the same init script and running the same version of icecast (2.3.1), the process

Icecast behind firewall
...this be a permissions problem? Are you running icecast as root
(not recommended) or in a chroot jail? Do the directories where you've
configured the logfiles to be created exists and can they be written by
the user you're running icecast as?
Hope this is useful.

question about xtable and Hmisc
I would like to get rid of the row numbers using xtable and latex.
The commands
d = cbind(1:10,rep(1:2,5))
ans = xtable(d)
latex(ans)
gives output containing

How do I get a character and a symbol in a legend
In the following snippet
plot(1:10,1:10,type="n")
points(1:5,1:5,pch="+")
points(6:10,6:10,pch=20)
legend(5,5, c("A","B"), pch=c("+",20))
I want to get a legend with a "+" and a solid circle (pch=20).
However, what I get in the legend is "+" and "2". How can I get a "+"
and a solid circle?
thanks, Steve

installing RGtk2
I am using ubuntu. When I tried install.packages("RGtk2") it downloaded
and seemed to compile successfully:
** building package indices ...
* DONE (RGtk2)
The downloaded packages are in
/tmp/Rtmp57id87/downloaded_packages
However, when I tried library(RGtk2) I found

Any Sugest?
Icecast could be used here but only after encoding with something like darkice.
You could setup an encoding system to take the line-in stream from the radio card and encode it to mp3 then send that stream to icecast and have icecast make it available to the machines on your network.

rotated histogram
I would like to make a scatterplot, with a histogram of the x and y
variables above and to the right . I can use layout to set up the areas,
and hist(x,y) works fine for the upper histogram. However, I need a
rotated histogram on the right, and I don't know how to do this. I've
seen a solution with a bar plot on the right, but I'd like to use a
histogram. Do you know how I can do

Hmisc - latex - table.env not observed
The following code
library(Hmisc)
x = 1:10
y = x
latex(summary(x~y),table.env=FALSE)
latex(summary(cbind(x,y)),table.env=FALSE)
should produce latex output that is not a table. The second one
produces just a tabular, as it should. However, the first one produces a
tabular embedded in a table. (This is the effect if you leave
table.env=FALSE out).

I have two problems. First, I don't know what package

HSAURtable question
It appears that HSAURtable only works on two dimensional tables. Is this
correct?
For example, here is HairEyeColor:

Black 32 11 10 3
Brown 38 50 25 15
Red 10 10 7 7
Blond 3 30 5 8

An array of an array of boxplots in lattice
Using the data set fgl in MASS the following code
layout(matrix(1:9,3,3))
for(i in 1:9){
boxplot(fgl[,i] ~ type, data = fgl,main=dimnames(fgl)[[2]][i])}
produces a 3 by 3 array of plots, each one of which consists of six
boxplots.
Is it possible to do this in lattice?

How to latex tables?
Suppose I have a table constructed from structable or simply just an
object of class table. How can I convert it to a latex object? I looked
in RSiteSearch, but only found info about matrices or data frames.
Steve
For example, here is a table t2
> str(t2)
table [1:2, 1:2, 1:2] 6 8 594 592 57 ...
- attr(*, "dimnames")=List of 3

help interpreting output?
Dear R experts,
I'm hoping someone can help me to interpret the results of building
gam's with mgcv in R.
Below are summaries of two gam's based on the same dataset. The first
gam (named "gam.mod") has six predictor variables. The second gam
(named "gam.mod2") is exactly the same except it is missing one of the
predictor variables. What is confusing me is
