advise for modeling a linear mixed model
Dear R help-list reader, I'm trying to investigate my data with linear mixed model and are seeking advise how to write the model in R. I was trying to get hold of the recommended book from Bates et al, but neither the major bookshop nor our university library had the book. My data is mirroring the example given in the appendix of John Foxes book "Applied Regression" with a small exception. I'm interested in a frequency (freq) of a particular cell type which was measured longitudinal in patients (p) and contr...

WINS and domain controller
Hi, Is there any way to 'administer' Samba's WINS database? I'm attempting to get Samba to take over our NT servers' current functionality so that we can ditch them entirely. I've enabled WINS support and told our DHCP server to point at it. Is there any way of viewing it's database to see if it's working? Also, our XP boxes connect to a domain which is

Is now not the time to consolidate (rather than extend) R and produce a comprehensive real book for sale in the bookshops and to decorate our shelves? The web is a very useful device - we can live for ages on the laser-printouts but even with a binder, these are not as convenient as a real book with examples. I have in mind the excellent manual for GLIM (although rather big) which comes with the (commercial) produ...

It gives a broarder perspective on what the future of UNIX was going to be -- it seemed to be aimed at introducing the concepts that the now defunct POSIX-security group were laboring over throughout this decade. Its really aimed at manager types, but its certainly worth a browse in the bookshop...] Hope this helps Cheers Andrew PS. ID from child table not handled by AR
Hi all, Im slowly moving forward, but there''s something a miss. I can save some relational records to tables, but only once. For an unknown reason, the primary key (id) of the child table is not automatically increased. (I can only perform one save, (the first records id field holds the value ''0'') and during the next save it says: Mysql::Error: Duplicate entry

Merb test harness
Ezra, * test harness in new generated merb apps with helpers for testing merb without starting a server. * pin down plugin arch Seems to me that these two tasks go together unless you want to have rspec built in Merb. Regarding the test harness, my understanding is that: - a developer should be able to easily write specs against a merb application. - a developer should not need to start a merb

bug on compilation (PR#11395)
Dear Mr. Beginning to work on Linux. I am trying to install R into Ubuntu Gustsy. I installed version 2.5.1 and worked fine. But then I tried to upgrade by adding these lines to sources.list: deb http://cran.fiocruz.br/bin/linux/debian etch-cran/ deb http://cran.fiocruz.br/bin/linux/ubuntu gutsy/ I introduced the authorization keys (as recommended) and the files were downloaded. But then I
