antispam plugin pipe script seems not to be called when it "should be"
...resulted. I posted to this list about it several times, but nobody was
ever able to help me solve the problem.
I just tried the same (in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS), hoping that the source had
evolved since then, and while I don't see a core-dump, the pipe script
doesn't seem to be called.
I've booby-trapped the pipe script with quite a bit of debugging output,
which should be written to a file, but I don't see any indication that
the pipe script is ever executed.
When logged-in as an IMAP user, and I drag a message from the user's
Inbox into the "Spam" folder, I do see the f...

write permissions - chapter 2
hello all,
I have been trying to run MS Windows and Excel under wine. They are
about the only two remaining dependent Windoz apps
The error they produce relates to write permissions. However that does
not seem to be the root issue. Other apps, such as Notepad, seem to be
able to write without issue.
What is currently required in way of wine config to satisfy Word and Excel?

Problems building Samba SRPM on Fedora 18 due to buildtools/bin/waf
...em, and it's too dang small.
I can reconfigure a host with "/tmp" as a local filesystem, and I can
even do builds inside the "mock" tools for building SRPM's which
create and use "chroot" environments and don't use "tmpfs" at all. But
it's a booby trap for anyone unsuspecting of the issue: The Samba
RPM's will fail to build because /tmp overflows with all the
/tmp/wafcache debris overwhelming it.
I don't have a best solution for this yet, I just wanted to let the
mailing list know they might get a surprise if they try to build RPM...

That darned orphaned socket hang
Stephen,
OK, I can now reproduce this hang at will, purely by pulling the plug
on my desktop when logged in and then rebooting - its a gnome desktop
box with few partitions and ext3 on all of them, so I guess its getting
a pile of gnome or ssh related sockets kept in /tmp which is on root
To recap, when the machine is suffering from this, it hangs at the
point of mounting the root filesystem

Virus scan + removal on a mdbox mail storage
...other words, it all comes back to endpoint security. Without it you
are very prone to a virus infection. Scanning incoming email is helpful
to reduce noise and inconvenience, but it is not a substitute for
endpoint security, as in any case users can be infected in plenty of
other ways, such as booby trapped websites or infected USB keys that
they bring into the office.

newbie: WINE / Windows / Office Question
WINE users:
Hi, I am new to wine, and am getting ready to try to test it and get
started.
These questions may seem basic, but any assistance would be well
appreciated.
a) What configuration file (basic or standard) do I need to bring it
up?
b) I have Mandrake 8.1, and I typed "wine" and got a response back
about command line options, so I beleive it to be installed, any idea

Yet another attempt at /tmp spoof protection
...vileges before creating or manipulating a file
in /tmp. Since the kernel uses the fsuid of the process (which is in
effect its euid most of the time) when constructing the RPC credentials
for the NFS call, it will automatically be redirected to its uid-specific
/.tmp/users directory that cannot be booby-trapped by an attacker.
Depending on your boot setup, you may also have to modify your rc files
because nfsd my not yet be running when the first programs try to use
/tmp. In this case, make /tmp a symlink to some other location first,
and flip it to /.tmp/nfs/cdf:uid after nfsd is running.
Oh, I...

Wine and Windows 2000
I had the latest wine running under winblows 98 SE for a week or two with no
problems, then I installed winblows 2000 and now I cannot get wine to work.
It is important for me to get it running again since I run United Devices
cancer research agent (http://members.ud.com) 24/7 to help them find a cure
for cancer. Is wine compatible with Win2k, or will I need to re-install 98
again?

...had copied smbd to another location and pointed the
shell script to point there, you will need to edit the
shell script and point it to /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd.
You would probably also get rid of the old copies or at least
move them out of the way so they are not laying there forever
as a kind of booby trap.
I am assuming you are familiar with the rc2.d rc3.d directories
and the hard links and the upper case S and K files in those
directories. If not, we can go over that.
I personally prefer to start services via inetd. Thus I would get
rid of the start and stop scripts (probably in the rc3.d...
