Darker markers for symbols in lattice
...pecify alpha, cex, col, fill
(for superpose.symbol and plot.symbol), font, and pch. Trial and error
shows that the font affects letters but not pch=1 or pch=3 (open circles
and plus signs.) I want to use open circles and plus signs, keep the colors
and cex I've specified but make the symbols bolder, much the way a
higher lwd makes lines bolder. Does anyone know of a library that
does that or can anyone think of a workaround to make the markers
stand out better without making them larger?
I'm using R2.8.1 with Windows Vista.
Thanks,
Naomi

Bold plot axis
...to corner (actually all the way around) and
tick marks and the accompanying values for the ticks bold. In the
default values, it's hard to see the plot when I put it into a
powerpoint. I've got the points and line and labels, but not the square
and ticks of the plot itself any darker or bolder. If there are other
suggestions for making it more visible, I'd welcome those too.

persp, add lines/highlights
...g to add several lines to a response surface that I've plotted
using persp(). I've tried lines() using the "trans3d" function but I've
been unsuccessful in getting it to work (R v2.0.1). Essentially, I'm
trying to highlight one or more of the surface wireframe lines in a
bolder (or different) color. Any tips from those of you who have some
experience with this would be greatly appreciated. [Would it be easier
using wireframe() in library(lattice) instead?]
And, any suggestions on how to add text outside of the persp() plot next
to the highlighted line would be much app...

Simple question about sortables...
Hi, I''m new to the prototype and scriptaculous (v1.5.1) libraries.
I''m creating a sortable list using the code below, and I''m finding that
while a list element is being dragged in IE, the element text is
transformed to appear bolder than the original. In Firefox, the text
becomes opaque.
Is there anyway to stop this from happening, ie don''t change any styles
while the element is being dragged? I''ve looked at the demos on the
scriptaculous website, and this doesn''t happen on most of them, but

on linux - so this was a simple solution that also meant I didn't have
to audit all the optimizers to check how they used invoke (though most
likely the inliner is the only one that matters).
You are suggesting changing the meaning of invoke, a bolder approach
which certainly has some advantages. If I understand right you want
to allow some exceptions to unwind through an invoke without branching
to the unwind label (instead they just keep on unwinding); which
exceptions are caught is to be determined by the eh.selector call.

...lumn, and why is it below
that?
It may be relevant that the first column was in \code{a} and the whole
thing was in an \arguments{\item{foo}{\tabular{ll} section.
Second, the items marked with \code{} appeared fainter than the other
text, and were a little hard to read. I'd expect them to be bolder.
Perhaps the R.css style sheet could be tweaked for this?

Fonts screwed after preview
...plication that shows a report written in FastReport 4.
Before opening the report, fonts are showed ok, as this screenshot shows:
After the report is previewed, app fonts are changed to this (boldened):
The bolder fonts aren't the only problem, if I try to re-open the report, it is completely screwed.
This only happens on a specific report, the app uses many reports and I can see all ok but this one.
Could it be that the report uses a font not installed on my PC?.
One more thing, the report engine com...

Regression stars
Today's GNU R tutorial in
http://how-to.linuxcareer.com/a-quick-gnu-r-tutorial-to-statistical-models-and-graphics
points out how bad statistical practice is being further perpetuated, by
virtue of "significance stars" still being the default in printed output
from lm models.

significance testing for the difference in the ratio of means
I have a question regarding significance testing for the difference in the
ratio of means.
The data consists of a control and a test group, each with and without
treatment. I am interested in testing if the treatment has a significantly
different effect (say, in terms of fold-activation) on the test group
compared to the control.
The form of the data with arbitrary n and not assuming equal
