Bug#679533: Traffic forwarding issue between Xen domU/dom0
retitle Traffic forwarding issue between Xen domU/dom0 thanks This week again this bug occurred again so we are trying to create some kind of reproduce algorithm. First we've created two virtual machines named koekiemonster.bofh.hq.mendix.net and netappsim.bofh.hq.mendix.net. We've added 29 vifs to koekiemonster.bofh.hq.mendix.net. During this tests we've always had a ping running to all ip addresses on koekiemonster.bofh.hq.mendix.net. Dom0 details: Debian Squeeze 6.0.6 Linux sirius 2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 #1 SMP S...

large ext3 filesystem consistantly locking itself read-only
We have several large ext3 file system partitions. One of them sets itself to read-only after getting journel problems. I understand that's a good thing, but obviously I need to correct the problem so that it will stop locking itself. Here are some details; OS is Redhat EL4 x86_64 running on a SunFire v40z, kernel is 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp. The disk storage in question is external, via

Have a look at these pages: http://www.bofh-hunter.com/2008/06/13/3ware-performance-in-centos/ https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444759 I'm comparing the default 5.1 64bit kernel with the patched one posted in the bug report (kernel-2.6.18-53.1.21.el5.bz321111.x86_64) and I don't quite see any significant difference in w...

How to join a linux machine to a "pure" Active Directory Domain using Samba 3.0alpha21?
Hello. I've now compiled and installed Samba 3.0 alpha 21 on a Red Hat 8.0 box (since I sadly don't have a current Mandrake box available in our network). Now I'm somewhat lost - what do I have to do, to make the Samba server join the Active Directory (which doesn't support NT 4.0 Domains)? Is "net ads join" the only thing I've got to do? Where do I set which AD

netapp/maildir/dovecot performance
We are seeing some poor performance recently that is focused around users with large mailboxes (100,000 message /INBOX, 80,000 message subfolders, etc). The performance problem manifests as very high system% utilization - basically iowait for NFS. There are two imap servers with plenty of horsepower/memory/etc. They are connected to a 3050c cluster via gig-e. Here are the mount options:

Proxy lmtps
Hi, when proxying lmtp from director to backend, director does not use STARTTLS. Delivering mails with postfix via lmtps to backend or director works encrypted. Is there a way to force the use of STARTTLS on dovecot director lmtp proxy? Regards, Matthias -- BOFH excuse #446: Mailer-daemon is busy burning your message in hell. (hbox storage?)

About the article OS_Protection by JimPerrin
Evolution (aka JimPerrin - or is this the other way around?) has been working on this excellent wiki article: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection However, the discussion is taking place at his own blog site http://www.bofh-hunter.com/ . Because this is a CentOS wiki article, I just wonder why we cannot do it here. Sure, his blog site may collect a wider audience, but we traditionally deals with all CentOS wiki articles on this mailing list. Here it is. I am starting this thread for those who would like to offer s...

Corrupted index cache file dovecot.index.cache: invalid record size
Hi, Our dovecot setup consists of two hosts running dovecot-1.0.beta9 with Maildir/indices stored on NFS(noac,actimeo=0 used). I am seeing these messages at times - but no real problems on the client side. Is this something to worry about? dovecot: Oct 17 10:33:31 Error: IMAP(user): Corrupted index cache file mailstore/user/Maildir/.mail.incoming/dovecot.index.cache: invalid record size

How to tell if key is encrypted?
I would like to automatically deduce in a script if an ssh key is encrypted or not. Basically in a very particular application I want to be the BOFH and enforce that users place a passphrase on their id_rsa key. If they don't put a passphrase I want to send them back to ssh-keygen until they do. I have not been able to deduce a way to detect this yet. Any hints? Thanks Bob

How to mount ext3 root partition with noatime and ro options at boot-time
Hi all, I was trying to mount root-partition which is ext3 partition with noatime and ro option. I included "ro" in the kernel command line But for mounting it with "noatime" option when I searched for some solution I came across a patch http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/8/5/38 But after applying this patch and including option "noatime" in

Wiki Update - Aide Link
Hello All, My username is MikeThompson The link to configure Aide at the bottom of this page: https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection Is dead, and says its dead, however, the old link to http://www.bofh-hunter.com/2008/04/10/centos-5-and-aide/ now redirects to a malicious website. One of my less than savvy users got his windows machine infected there last night. I'm wondering if it makes sense to change the link to point to one of the following guides which are very decent: http://www.serve...
