compiling issue 1.2.6 - Solaris
Heya,
I am expiriencing compiling issues on Solaris 8 and Solaris 10 boxes
with dovecot 1.2.6. On Solaris 8 the compiler is gcc 64bit 3.2.2, on
Solaris 10 gcc 3.4.3.
On both systems the compiling fails with:
/bin/bash ../../libtool --tag=CC --mode=link gcc -std=gnu99 -g -O2
-Wall -W -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Wpointer-arith
-Wchar-subscripts -Wformat=2

parameters to deliver
...ocal, delay=0,

It doesn't like... mailbox_command = /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/
deliver -e -d "$recipient" either!
Is -d required any longer... and if so, how, please.

OS X Mail Administration
...situation. All mail storage will be on
the server so disk space is not an issue. I'm a bit confused whether
or not to keep the inbox separate from the other imap structure as is
the OS X default: should all mailboxes be under inbox, etc.
Your input would be appreciated.

Login processes in Dovecot
I will be deploying Dovecot on OS X shortly. I am looking for
clarification on the limits imposed by OS X and sysctl
[kern.maxproc]. I understand that it is defaulting to 532, but can be
raised to 2500. I believe the OS uses around 100 or so, plus I will
have other processes and shells at times.
Does Dovecot use one process per user logged in? I find Apple Mail
uses about 4 IMAP

POP3 dictionary attacks
I'm seeing strings of failed POP3 login attempts with obvious bogus
usernames coming from different IP addresses. Today's originated from
216.31.146.19 (which resolves to neovisionlabs.com). This looks like a
botnet attack. I got a similar probe a couple days ago. Is anyone else
seeing these?
The attack involves trying about 20 different names, about 3-4 seconds
apart. Here's a

Starting using LaunchDaemons
...what the problem was when I attempted to
start it from the command line as opposed to starting it with the

G520X2:root# /usr/local/sbin/dovecot -F
Fatal: Dovecot is already running with PID 59 (read from /usr/local/

Hope it helps someone else.

IDLE with inotify problem
Hi,
I recently switched from courier imap to dovecot. With courier I had
a working IDLE setup that informed me immediately when new mail
arrived. With Dovecot it is different, sometimes i get an immediate
result but most of the time it takes a rather long time for the
notification to return to the client.
For testing purposes I set mailbox_idle_check_interval = 1 and i now
get the same

Sieve Vacation Auto-Reply Exclusions
...vecot Wiki is quite clear regarding its vacation auto-reply
mechanism http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sieve and under what
circumstances the automatic replies will NOT be sent. However, is it
possible to manually add a list of envelope senders that the script
will not respond to?

CONVERT Plugin
...ail line:
convert_mail = mbox:~/Library/Mail/IMAP/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u and
mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir
The IMAP directory was renamed to IMAP-converted after the process
but the inbox (in /var/mail) does not get renamed. The WIKI sounds
like it should be renamed to something, too.

Wiki relating to subscriptions
...ldn't
they also have to change the same define in src/lib-storage/index/
maildir/maildir-storage.h?
Also, (regarding v1.0.0 code) the default define in mbox-storage.h is
".subscriptions" whereas the default define in maildir-storage.h is
"subscriptions" (no dot)

1.1.13 squat core dump
While using 1.1.13 and squat with local pine imap on Solaris 9 I had a
random core dump today. I was doing a search in a maildir folder with
about 2000 emails. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to reproduce it
yet, but I wanted to send along the info anyways.

BUG REPORT - Stops logging after sleep
Version: dovecot --version: 1.0.0
OS: OS X - 10.4.9
Architecture: G5 Dual/1.8Ghz
Had a fairly normal time correction last night:
May 9 20:56:56 G518X2 ntpd[219]: time set -1.212733 s
Which dovecot duly noted:
May 9 20:56:56 G518X2 dovecot: auth(default): Time just moved
backwards by 1 seconds. I'll sleep now until we're back in present.
This morning all of the dovecot processes are

Index file (date timestamp) issue on OS X 10.6.2 Server
Hi,
I've run into a bit of a problem and exhausted my knowledge and research. I'm hoping that I've overlooked something very obvious!
I moved from a single Apple OS X 10.6.2 server Dovecot environment to a NFS clustered environment, currently with two servers. Both servers are identical hardware, software. Currently both the Dovecot index and data files are on the NFS RAID array.

- Half of LDAP code was rewritten to fix reconnect/queuing problems. I
did test that the new code works with and without auth binds, but be
careful.
- \Recent flags should finally work correctly with maildir.
- last_used field wasn't

Converting mbox to Maildir, all prior read messages are downloaded as new
I am running dovecot 0.99. Everything works great; however, now I am
looking at several different tools to convert mbox to Maildir. It seems
the tools, mb2md.pl, perfect_maildir.pl, and others all do what they
claim; however, when the messages are converted and they are stored in
Maildir/cur, the email clients download these messages as new.
This typically wouldn't be a problem;

Setting IMAP keywords/flags on delivery
Hi there,
We've been long time users of Dovecot, and have found it a great IMAP
server. I don't think we've had any serious problems in the 3-4 years
of use. So great work. :)
We have a IMAP inbox that is accessed by a number of different users
from Thunderbird. We have a rule in Thunderbird to flag new emails as
"TO DO", so someone can unflag the email once it has
