Retrieve ... argument values
Dear R users,
I want to retrieve "..." argument values within a function. Here is a small

plot(x, ...)
}
x <- rnorm(100)
myfunc(x, ylim=c(-0.5, 0.5))

Suspicious behaviour of sort on POSIXct vectors in R-2.3.0 and R-2.3.1
Hi ,
When I sort a vector of POSIXct values in R-2.3.0 and R-2.3.1, I get a
vector of numeric values and this gets some of my code to crash (class
object creation). Is that a R bug?
In the mean time. I'll try to override the sort function for the POSIXct
objects.
Thanks,

Thank you for helping me!
I try the "pretty" funtion to select the x-axis position value. Then I use the "format" funtion.
xax.pos <- pretty(as.numeric(x$x.name))
format(xax.pos,'%d %b %y')

Partner node reboot issue
Dear Team, I came across one problem in Oracle RAC Database server with
OCFS2 file system.
When I manually un-plug the Ethernet cable of primary node, the secondary
node automatically restarted.

Come on, Ivy. Did you try the line in my previous email? That will put
*time* on x-axis. Give it a go?

Least Absolute Deviation
Dear all,
I try to fit least absolute deviation (LAD) regression with R. I couldn't
find any command to carry out LAD. What I am doing now is using nlm() and
setting the function argument to minimize the sum of the absolute
deviation. But for some data it keeps giving out the error message: Error
in nlm(absdev, b.start) : non-finite value supplied by nlm. (there is no na
in my dataset.)

Desperatly seeking Parallel R simulation with Windows XP
Hello R experts,
I've been searching for weeks a way to use my quad core xeon to increase
speed of a very-very computer-intensive simulation I must do for my works.
It seems that most purpose-made packages for R : Snow, Rmpi, snowfall,...
are designed for Linux based OS. I do not have access to Linux due to
professionnal reasons ... so I must work with windows XP.
Do somebody know a way to

I was using png() last week and also found it was very slow. But if you
try:
win.metafile('C:/temp/filename.png', width = 9, height = 10)
plot(rnorm(100))
dev.off()
It will speed up quite a lot. But one thing I don't understand is I always get truncated graph (I lost a bit at the right end of the plot). I make up
a very long title for the graph and then I get an entire graph. I

Standard error of standard deviation: bootstrap or theoretical results?
Dear R users,
This is more a statistical question rather than an R question. I'd
appreciate it if you can give me some suggestions.
I have a sample of a time series (sample size 500, fat tail in density). I
am trying to calculate the Standard error of standard deviation of a
sub-block-sample (sample size 250). I take 100 this kind of
sub-block-sample, randomly. For these 100 subsamples, I

wx layout with sugar
I''m sure this will be user error on my part, but I can''t seem to get the
following to layout properly.
Basically, I want the p1 to fill the available space and p2 to be as small
as possible (with the root panel filling all the available space). With
the following code, the buttons in the p2 end up being truncated, (i.e.
the bottom line is missing).
Where am I going
