Problems with graphical devices, e.g., png(), pdf(): blurry graphical output
...irable output from
graphical devices such as png() and pdf(). The graphical output is
blurry. I haven't experienced the problem on other systems. As you
will see from the attached text file (more information on this file
below), the problem does not occur when type='Xlib' is forced. The
blurriness is more severe with bitmap output (yes, I am viewing the
bitmap files at 100%), but occurs with pdf output as well.
Software details: Fedora 10, with at least the following packages:
-- R, R-core, R-devel
-- cairo, cairo-devel
-- pixman, pixman-devel
-- libpng, libpng-devel
-- poppler

Theora blurriness in Windows players
...Chrome (latest from website today), Opera (10.50 Alpha,
latest build from the website), and SMplayer (the recommended GUI for
Mplayer on Windows, apparently, again, latest from website today).
ALL of the players, with the exception of Mozilla Firefox (3.6) & Google
Chrome displayed significant blurriness. In fact, the sharpest render
came from Mozilla Firefox, something I found quite interesting. Miro
may or may not have had the same issue, but it crashed while playing the
file, after first saying it didn't support Ogg Theora files (!), AFTER
showing a preview. It then played it the second t...

Paperclip - gen'd thumbnails are fin in dev, but blurry in production
Seems I''ve seen some discussion in the past about something not right
on the server side with ImageMagick when this is happening, but I cant
find it now that I''m having the problem.
Any advice?

screen fonts
Does anyone know of any programs capable of fine tuning my screen
display settings? I'm using the NVIDIA drivers, and everything is
slightly blurry - regardless of how much (or little) I set anti-aliasing to.

R Graphs in Powerpoint
I've tried several methods in OS X, and here's what works best for me. Save the R graphic as a PDF file. Open it with Apple's "Preview" application, and save it as a PNG file. The resulting .png file can be inserted into MS Word or PowerPoint, can be resized, and looks good on either OS X or Windows. There are other programs available for translating the pdf file to png

How to display numbers or word graphically?
Some blog sites and others (ticketmaster, for example) require you to
read a graphical representation of a word or number to prevent a form
from being submitted programmatically.
I''d like to do something similar on a new site I''m building.
Two quick questions:
1. Is there a standard term for these graphical representations? i.e.
how would I do a google search for this

multi-page printing moving on
I have some nice forms done using stylesheets. I currently have them
displaying on screen and the user could simply just print.
This works when there is only one form (facility) to be viewed/printed.
I have created the looping code necessary to print for all facilities
but that doesn''t work for me because each page uses stylesheets with
<div> that do absolute positioning and thus

Making TIFF images with rtiff
Many medical journals and publishers require that images, whether
photographs or line art, be submitted as high resolution .TIFF images.
One option for R users is to produce an image in one format and to
convert it to a .TIFF file using a second software program. My
experience has been that this option often results in images of poorer
quality, often with blurry contours, and a loss of

Formalizing the end of the relationship with Eaton
Dear NUT users,
The relationship with Eaton was in need of clarification for a long time,
which happened over the past weeks. This is now officially noted on the NUT
side, through moving Eaton from the "Main supporter" to "Supporting UPS
manufacturer", rewording the content and putting a big warning [1].
Quoting these main changes:

PDFs and SVGs containing rasterGrobs don't display correctly in some other software
I've just been trying to post-process some R-created heatmaps using
Inkscape, but I can't get them to display correctly in that software.
To reproduce:
library(grid)
r <- as.raster(matrix(runif(25), 5, 5))
pdf("test.pdf")
grid.newpage()
grid.raster(r, interpolate = FALSE)
dev.off()
This figure should be a five by five block of grey squares. This is
what I see in the R GUI

exporting high quality graphics from R in Mac OSX
Hi there
The default option for saving graphics from R (1.9.1) on my Mac is as a
pdf file. If I open the file in Acrobat reader it looks really good and
crisp, and is obviously saved as vector graphics, since I can zoom in
as much as I like and it continues to look really nice. If I import it
into MS Word (from office 2000), or Textedit, however, it imports it as
a bitmap and unless I save

I have just installed Centos 3 and I can't help notices that the fonts are blurry. I have been using RH9 and then Fedora and the fonts there are fine, But Whitebox and Centos seem to be blurie. Can anyone tell if Cents has the Byte-code interpreter enabled in Freetype?
Thanks all.

Half Life 2 - Can't get past the loading screen
I'm running the game with the following options:
> -novid -dxlevel 90 -width 1024 -height 768
I've got sound working using the ALSA driver.
I can play other games just fine.
I have an ATI Radeon X2300 which never game me any problems, I even used glxgears and got these results, which I think are ok:

RFC: bicubic filtering patch
Hey,
There's one relevant patch in the F13 DDX package that hasn't been
pushed into git still.
The patch simply switches off the bicubic filtering if we're scaling the
image by less than 200% in either direction in order to prevent some
excessive blurriness in the image (very noticable with the gstreamer
xvideo test).
The patch has been in the Fedora package since F11 as a user reported
the issue as a bug, and the radeon driver has similar code, but I
thought I'd ask for opinions before I pushed this to git.
Ben.

Stroring and extracting AICs from an ARIMA model using a nested loop
I am nowaware that I should not post this type of questions on this group. However, Iwould like to have some clarifications related to the response you've?alreadyprovided. The code you provided yields accurate results, however I still haveissues grasping the loop process in case 1 & 2.
In case1,?the use of?"p+1" and "q+1" is still blurry tome? Likewise "0L"

Using Paperclip::Processor and RMagick to sharpen my thumbnails
Hi, I''m brand new to RMagick (and pretty new to Rails for that
matter!). Right now, site owners are allowed to upload product and
ingredient photos to the website. Everything works great, ingredients
are sized down and proportioned correctly...the problem is that the
resulting images are so blurry! So I''ve been doing some research and
it looks like Paperclip::Processor may be the
