lets talk abaut gstreamer 1.10.5, gstreamer-libav, ffmpeg, bluray and vlc
...eam libav: Has ffmpeg 3.2.5 not ffmpeg 2.8.13 what is the background for vlc. In principal it's possible to build ffmpeg 3.4. http://centos.cms4all.org/repo/7/gstreamer-ffmpeg3/ vlc 2.26 is only compatible with ffmpeg 2.8.xx release. Hopefully i get response from the gstreamer guys to get bluray running with gstream-libav. In the past it was possible with gstreamer 1.4.5. As a side node as always: Got problems with dvd on usb blurayplayer, but this is another storry and can not be fixed from the kernel side. Buffer problems. Blurays & DVD (builtin drive) are playing with vlc. Totem ca...

Hello :-) I have just bought a Pioneer 15x BluRay recorder. I saw something like below in the dmesg, I cannot access video with VLC, should I worry about that? I guess recording files can be done just as for DVD with growisofs? :-) (cd2:ata0:0:1:0): READ DVD STRUCTURE. CDB: ad 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 8 0 0 (cd2:ata0:0:1:0): CAM status: SCSI Status Error...

Maybe it should be called Publishing, or something, I dunno... I prefer to call it Mastering. -- john r pierce, recycling bits in santa cruz

new laptop: DVD or Blu-ray
One of the build options for a laptop I'm looking at buying is DVD vs Blu-Ray. I've never used Blue-ray before, so is there some compelling reason, as a Linux guy, to want to get Blu-ray?

I bought a BluRay for my Thinkpad and my Desktop. Very rarely use them, but on occassion I do. When I use them, I use them to rip movies via MakeMKV but honestly that is the only BluRay use they ever get. ...or B, C, D. That network which likely will only have a few devices can not initiate connection to Internet or the other networks. B is my trusted home network. It can connect to Internet (NAT) and to A (port forwarding) but can not reach C or D C is untrusted home network. Things like my TV and Bluray player that need Internet access but that I don't want to have the ability to reach anything on B, but I do want them to be able to talk to NAS on A via port forwarding. I'm always paranoid about those devices on my network, I don't trust what they are doing. Call it tin foil but I...

I don't play a LOT of DVDs, but on, e.g., C6 on the same hardware I don't recall ever having onefail to play with VLC. In looking at the source package for libdvdcss, last night, I see there are 3 different ways of cracking the encryption that it supports. The de...

Using two subnets to change network configuration
...ution: Change the network from 192.168.1.0/24 to 172.24.24.0/22. This is somewhere in the middle of the less frequently used RFC-1918 20 bit private network range. My network contains 40 or so nodes, windows, linux, and proprietary operating systems of various types (TiVos, iPhones, iPads, TVs, BluRay players, WAP's, etc.) What I would like to do to minimize down time would be to create a single new machine on the network with addresses on both networks and set up as a router between the networks. That way, I can convert the machines one at a time, and not loose any connectivity. When all...

playing DVDs on C7
Hi all! I'm trying to finish setting up my newly upgraded C7 system. It's on the same hardware I ran C6 on for several years. on C6 I had no trouble playing DVDs (after installing tons of packages and libdvdcss). Well, on C7, I've got totem (videos) and all its plugins I can find via yum, VLC (from nux) all the gstreamer and gstreamer1 packages I can find, everything with

...op. But I also purchased (the very first version a number of years ago) and keep support updated for the Fluendo OnePlay DVD player (fully legal, licensed, DVD playback) and it both works perfectly on CentOS 7 and plays those titles that VLC has trouble with (like the DVD copy included in the Bluray edition of Titanic). If you want fully legal and fully supported DVD playback, see http://www.oneplaydirect.com/oneplay/oneplay-dvd-player/ (which features a 30 day free trial so you can test to see if it will work on your hardware). Fluendo also has fully legal codecs for the GStreamer frame...
