mdbox: Cannot create subfolder called "dbox-Mails" (2.0beta5)
I am trying out "mdbox" under Dovecot 2.0beta5.
Looking in the "mailboxes" directory under the mdbox storage root
("~/dbox" in my case), I can see that the mail folders are mapped into
filesystem directories.
But Dovecot seems to put all the message list information
("dovecot.index.cache", "dovecot.index.log") for any given mail folder

Can't get Thunderbird 2 to delete a folder under mdbox (Dovecot 2.0beta5)
Can't get Thunderbird 2 to delete a folder under mdbox (Dovecot 2.0beta5)
I have built Dovecot 2.0 and installed it under "/opt/dovecot2".
I have done the minimum configurations necesary to get it to work with
SSL, systems users but with a secondary password database, and set up
mail location as "mdbox:~/dbox".
I had to create the directory "dbox" in the

Problem accessing Dovecot mailing lists via IMAP
I recently tried to look at the Dovecot mailing lists through an
already-configured IMAP profile, which had worked fine in the past.
But it failed saying that the authentication method was not supported.
http://www.dovecot.org/mailinglists.html says:
"You can get access to the IMAP archives by using *dovecot.org* as the
hostname, *anonymous* as the username and an empty password.

Thunderbird 3.1 unable to delete subfolder of Trash under mdbox
Thunderbird 3.1.9 over Windows 7.
Dovecot 2.0.11 (2:2.0.11-0~auto+41 from http://xi.rename-it.nl/debian/

Trying to set up a Dovecot system with mdbox. But I also wanted to keep
some Maildir. So I ended up with both mdbox and Maildir side-by-side and
noticed an issue.
On this system, Dovecot's global mail location is configured with

auth socket goes away on reload
We're using the SQLite backend for authentication of Postfix SASL. When
the db is replaced we HUP dovecot to close and reopen its connection.
During this time it appears the socket file is removed and Postfix
rejects the authentication attempt. From the logs:

Documentation for "altpath" / "altmove" / ?"Alternate storage"
I was thinking about documentation for alternate storage.
We have a few mentions at:
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/dbox
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Tools/Doveadm
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Tools/Doveadm/Altmove
But I was thinking it would be helpful if there could be a page about
alternate storage.
I could write the page, but I currently have so many unknowns that I
think it would be

mdbox: Is there any more info on the "cleanup" step? (Dovecot 2.0beta5)
The wiki page which mentions mdbox talks about a "cleanup" step for mdbox:
: The space is later freed in "cleanup" step. This may be done
: automatically within the session or later in a nightly cronjob when
: there's less disk I/O. The cleanup first finds all files that have

The wiki talks about it but it isn't clear where the tool is.

Suggested location for single-dbox
I've updated http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailLocation regarding a typical
mail_location entry for dbox.
Previously it said:
mail_location = dbox:~/dbox
but of course "dbox" is now the old name for "sdbox", so the example
should be updated to say "sdbox" and there might/ought also to be an
example for "mdbox".

LAYOUT=maildir++ under mbox?
Whilst documenting LAYOUT=maildir++ under dbox, that got me thinking:
Can we specify :LAYOUT=maildir++ with mbox?
If I have it right, this should then remove the problem of not being
able to have messages and mail subfolders in the same mail folder.
So for example if we had mail location specified as:
mail_location = mbox:~/mail:LAYOUT=maildir++
we would have files:
~/mail/inbox - file

What's %%h ?
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Variables says that "%%" expands to "%", so
according to that, "%%h" expands to "%h".
But I have seen people using "%%h", so it must mean something else.

"Documentation" link from http://www.dovecot.org/
On the Dovecot home page http://www.dovecot.org/ we have a link
"Documentation" which links to the Dovecot 1.x wiki (
http://wiki.dovecot.org/ ).
There is a question mark in my mind as to whether that is a good idea
considering as how the current stable version of Dovecot appears to be
2.0.x.
In the Dovecot 1.x wiki, there is a pink stripe across the top of the
page which says

Dovecot aspects of fighting spam
I see no documents in the Dovecot documents wiki on how Dovecot
features can be used in the fight against spam. One hit came up in a
search, and it was about how to fight spam in the MoinMoin Wiki itself
(e.g. TextCHAs and such).
I already asked in another thread about removing message files at the
search from a designated "learn-spam" folder. My next question would
be how to

If this is an SMTP relay server, I'm surprised you bothered to install
an IMAP server at all. It would have been easier to simply alias
postmaster@ to another account on another machine where you do store
mailboxes. I.e. simply

NFS mail storage
The parameters listed for nfs installations (mmap_disable,
doctlock_use_excl, mail_nfs_storage, mail_nfs_index) - are they
necessary for data integrity, and/or do they compensate for NFS latency
and improve performance?
My understanding is the indexes are a critical part of a dbox storage,
but on the other hand having local indexes is a major performance
consideration. Is maildir a

Just having another look at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailServerOverview

Limit access to dovecot by domains?
Hi.
Is there any way to limit access to dovecot by domains.
I only need to give access to a well known set of domains, all from
Australia and all networks are known and used either from people
at home or mobile access (phones, laptops etc).
iptables is not possible as e.g. OPTUS does not give away all of the
networks mobile phones are connected to. I know some, but not all.
It would be much

Sub-Sub-Subfolders not shown after converting from maildir to mdbox
Hi again,
I just recognized a problem concerning subfolders after converting from
maildir to mdbox. Thunderbird and SeaMonkey don?t show folders that are
subfolders of subfolders.
Have a look at the filesystem:
