Sysprep joins fail on Samba >= 4.2.0
Hi,
We have a samba 4.2.2 setup compiled from source, single DC, internal DNS.
We've been using this samba setup in production since version 4.0.3. All
clients are Windows 7-x64.
Since we upgraded to samba 4.2.0 back in march 2015, we are not able to
join client machines to the domain using our sysprep unattended image, but
joining machines via the manual procedure using the Windows GUI

Samba Share slow on OpenVPN
Almost certainly your OpenVPN connection is the problem - Samba will
serve files as fast as the link permits and is comparable to say ftp.
You could fiddle with OpenVPN first or you could do some real link
speed testing and then use that to inform your tuning. That of course
assumes that your Samba implementation is optimal. I assume that there
is no performance problem on site.
I would use

Managing Kerberos tickets via winbind on a laptop
Dear all
I'm not too sure where to start here - possibly a feature request. I am getting great results with using Winbind to manage Kerberos tickets for Linux workstations "joined" to an AD.
Fixed machines work beautifully - I have Raspberry Pis and PCs (running Arch and Gentoo) and servers running Ubuntu LTS , all doing Kerberos against AD KDCs with local logins via AD and local

Did you compile Samba from source code?
I cannot see what the problem is because you do not describe the
problem properly.
I can only suggest that you check time synchronisation and DNS. The
errors in the log look like crashes rather than configuration.
Cheers

Dynamic DNS for Samba domain joined hosts
Dear all
I have a Ubuntu 18.04 box with Samba 4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.16 on it. Until recently I only used winbind on it to
enable GSSAPI for ssh and Apache. The machine is domain joined to a 2016 based set of AD DCs.
I have added a IPv6 static address to the box and want to update DNS dynamically.
I installed all of Samba to get "samba_dnsupdate". Prior to this I only needed

Samba AD Best Practice (DNS)
Pat
There's no such thing as "best practice" - there's good and bad
practice and I hope that here (Samba ML) you will get some good advice,
in return for a good question.
The environment you describe, to me, implies that it would be best if
you simply "fit in". You can but it will take a bit of work (not too
much). It does not matter where DNS comes from, provided it

idmap rid finds deleted groups for some users
All
I am using the following config on a PC with Samba 4.6.5 (Arch), joined
to a 2012 R2 domain/forest.
idmap config * : backend = tdb
idmap config * : range = 1000000-1999999
idmap config MYDOM : backend = rid
idmap config MYDOM : range = 10000 - 19999
# id <username>
returns a list of groups fine for most users but for some, it includes
deleted groups and misses groups that have
