Unofficial Samba+ACL howto
Hi all,
As promised, I have started a howto document on setting up Samba with NT ACL
support, based on experiences in my workplace, as documentation for this
seems to be on the short side at the moment.
It is available at the following address:
http://www.bluelightning.org/linux/samba_acl_howto
I have yet to convert it to proper DocBook format, and it needs more material
(probably corrections, too). Please feel free to comment.
Cheers,
Paul Eggleton

Good ;)
We have a Samba working with XFS ACLs without Winbind (i think) here at EFREI
(French engineering school). I could contribute with my NT admin to your HOWTO
(or any other) to add some info, as i think i won'...

You may want to change the title to be "Unofficial Redhat Samba + ACL +
Winbind Howto", since most other distros have ACL support out the box
(Mandrake since 8.1 has had ACL support on XFS, 9.0 had ACL...

posix acls vs unix groups and nt acls
I'm looking for info on using posix acls in samba. I'd like them to
look and feel like nt acls. I'd like to use the windows client to set
the acls on the samba server. I've got the official samba 3 howto
book, but can't seem to figure things out from there.
specifically, in the past I've used a force group entry in combined
with create modes to keep shared files access to

ACLs and file copies/permissions
Hello all,
I want to make a Samba server act as much like an 2000 machine as possible.
I've successfully got winbindd running, and also have compiled ACLs into the
kernel and the XFS filesystem.
What settings to I want to use in the smb.conf file to make it as close to
2000 as possible? I want to minimize the necessity of admining the box from
the Linux side.
Currently I have issues with

Samba 3.0 ACL, Windows Credentials
...o keep up with patches every time I changed kernels.
So, I have ACL built. I'm using ext3.
I went to http://acl.bestbits.at/ and downloaded and installed all the
supporting software required. (Course, all their links are broken, but I
eventually found them)
I followed this guide:
http://www.bluelightning.org/linux/samba_acl_howto/
And everything has gone fairly well.
I did have to download and compile the MIT Kerberos package, but that was
just a minor set back (even with the compilation errors).
So, here I am. I have kinit'd. I have ACL support. Samba 3.0 is running
with ACL support.
I hav...

Request for ACL experiences
I'm having trouble with ACL's and wonder how many others are too. I see
conflicting answers and comments about different aspects of ACL's from
many prople on the list. I was wondering if ANYONE is successfully
using ACL's with Samba 3.0 or above.
Questions I have that I'm sure many are asking are:
Was your Samba server configured as the DC?
What client OS were you

Samba and Active Directory Permissions
All,
I am currently running Samba 3.0.2a on a RHEL3 server. I would like
to use the extended file systems permissions through windows, but I
haven't had much luck. Here is how I am set up....
My linux box is joined to my AD domain and appears to be functioning
correctly. I also have winbind set up, and functioning, although I
still have some tweaking to do, it is assigning user and
