Possible to resize a Windows guest's disk while online?
I'm looking for a way to online resize a Windows disk -- i.e., be able to resize the disk without shutting down, rebooting, or detaching the disk. Is this at all possible? Or am I just barking up the wrong tree? I'm not finding a way to do this and even Amazon has a weird workaround, in which the user must write data to the newly resized-drive in order to recognize the new size

I don't thinkg qemu-guest-agent can do that for you. >Is this at all possible? Or am I just barking up the wrong tree? I'm >not finding a way to do this and even Amazon has a weird workaro...

Re: Migrate to a bigger disk possible?
...no > problem. Sorry... It definitely is possible. There are multiple options though and I didn't quite get which one is your case: 1) QCOW2 image is too small but theres unused space on the filesystem where the image is stored: - live: The image can be resized live via 'virsh blockresize'. You then must modify the partitions and enlarge filesystem. - offline: 'virt-resize' tool from the libguestfs package can be used to do it offline and it should be able to resize your partitions and filesystem as well. 2) QCOW2 is too small and there isn't enough...

claiming unsused space back
As has already been mentioned, some commands (or command options) are only supported on later releases, the man pages don't say this. Does anyone know of a source of information listing the command, option and version it is implemented in? That alone would be a great help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Adams" <linux at cmadams.net> To: "centos"

Re-sizing qcow2 images
Hello All, I am using Centos 6.3 with libvirt 0.910 and qemu-kvm 0.12 I had to resize a qcow2 disk, and came across several issues; I used this command to resize the image: sudo -i /usr/bin/qemu-img /var/lib/libvirt/images/mydisk.img resize +100G . The disk is attached using virtio. I then tried to use parted from within the guest to resize the partition. The first problem was that the

Re: Is there still no easier way to shrink a VM image?
Thanks for letting me know I'm not making myself clear, let me try again with a few more specifics, These are Windows VMs with three disk images for C:, D: and L:. To simplify I'll focus on the image for C: which had grown to 77G physical size on the hypervisor's ssd (I just double-checked that with 'ls -al' because qemu-img below says 70G, this image had two snapshots at one
