remove revalidate_disk()
Hi Jens, this series removes the revalidate_disk() function, which has been a really odd duck in the last years. The prime reason why most people use it is because it propagates a size change from the gendisk to the block_device structure. But it also calls into the rather ill defined ->revalidate_disk method which is rather useless for the callers. So this adds a new helper to just propagate the size, and cleans up all kinds of mess around this area. Follow on patches will eventuall kill of ->revalidate_disk enti...

[PATCH 00/24] block, scsi: final compat_ioctl cleanup
Hi Jens, James and Martin, This series concludes the work I did for linux-5.5 on the compat_ioctl() cleanup, killing off fs/compat_ioctl.c and block/compat_ioctl.c by moving everything into drivers. Overall this would be a reduction both in complexity and line count, but as I'm also adding documentation the overall number of lines increases in the end. My plan was originally to keep the

[PATCH v2] virtio-blk: handle block_device_operations callbacks after hot unplug
A userspace process holding a file descriptor to a virtio_blk device can still invoke block_device_operations after hot unplug. For example, a program that has /dev/vdb open can call ioctl(HDIO_GETGEO) after hot unplug to invoke virtblk_getgeo(). [PATCH 0/2] sparsify: Add --tmp option to allow specifying temporary directory or block device.
The first patch is just some simple refactoring. See the second patch for a description of the new virt-sparsify --tmp option. I tested this using a loopback device as my temporary block device, and it seems to work fine for me. Federico .. this needs a BZ :-) Rich.
