streaming ogg from WinAmp
Hi list, I was just wondering if there was a way to stream using ogg format from WinAmp. I could always take the output from WinAmp and feed it in to the sound card on my Linux box and use the live streaming option of ices, but that sounds a bit messy. Also what is a recommended quality to stream ogg at so that modem listeners can pick it up with out many skips. I found that 32k was fine in

ices.pm
Hi list, I am just about to write my own playlist generator for my icecast stream and was just looking at the docs that come with the ices source. They refer to an ices.pm file which apparently provides a skeleton to work from, except I can't find it anywhere in the ices-0.2.3 tarball. Can anyone please direct me to a location where I could track down this elusive code template? Thanks

NEWBIE QUESTION - ERROR [BAD PASSWORD]
The Debian Icecast server is compiled with password crypt support, which means you can't put the password in in cleartext. You will have to apt-get install makepasswd and do something like echo "password" > passwd.tmp makepassword --crypt --clearfrom=passwd.tmp and paste the encrypted password in to your icecast.conf file. Hope this helps.

streaming with crossfade
Hi list, I am just wondering if anyone knows a way to stream with automated crossfading under Linux. I know that you can stream to icecast from windows using something like otsjuke, or WinAmp with the SQR crossfading plugin, but am not aware of anything for Linux that will allow me to stream with gapless output. Any suggestions greatly appreciated as always.

capturing sound from /dev/dsp
Hi list, I am wondering if there is any way that I can have an application listen to what is being sent to /dev/dsp, say ogg123 or something, and encode that and send it off to an icecast server. Hmmm, I probalby didn't explain that overly well. OK, I can use darkice to capture what is sent to line-in and send that off to an icecast server, but in this instance, I want to capture what is

problems using samba as PDC
Hi list, We are in the process of replacing our current Windows 2k file server with a Debian Linux one running Samba. I am running Samba 2.999+3.0.Alpha21 which is packaged for Debian in the Unstable tree. I believe I have configured everything correctly however when I login from a Windows client it is creating the users profile under there home directory rather than in the profile directory

Taking output from lame and streaming it
Hi list, OK, I have managed to get somewhere, but now I am really stuck. I have taken the audio from esound and piped it to lame with something like <p>esdmon | lame -h -b 32 -x - - | o I have this nicely encoded mp3 stream being piped to stdout, and from there I have no idea how to get it to the icecast server. I dare say it could be done quite painlessly with libshout but I have no
