Drawing maps of UK
Hi I have downloaded the maps package from CRAN, along with a few other map* packages that I could find - but there didn't seem to be data on the UK. What I actually want to do (finally) is draw some maps of data that I have which is organised by postcode (sort of equivalent of US Zip code for those who don't know). I think this may be quite ambitious, but I wanted to see just how far I

compiling a package on a pc - process is stalling
...junk files * checking for LF line-endings in source files * checking for empty directories WARNING: directory opRisk/inst is empty * building 'opRisk_0.2.tar.gz' But 'Rcmd INSTALL opRisk' also stalls. I have also tried to compile one of the packages from CRAN with similar results (blighty). Thanks for any pointers. Regards, John. Filesystem level backups?
Up until now I've been backing up my IMAP server by taking an atomic snapshot of the entire VM, so I've not really had to worry about it. I'm moving to hosting where I have neither VM snapshots nor a filesystem that can take snapshots, so I need to think about consistent backups a bit more. Will a simple backup of all the files of an multi-dbox give me a consistent state when I

Echo...
I've spent all day today trying to fix an echo problem and I've made no ground whatsoever. I have Digium TDM400 with 3 FXO & 1 FXS. I've tried this computer at two completely different sites with different phone providers. I've tried compiling & installing different versions of Zaptel (currently running 1.4.0, started at 1.2.9 and worked my way up). I've tried

English vs American voice files
My wife's got an appropriate Southern England (Wimbledon) accent and I'm sure she would try her hand. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the words that need to be said? Matt, do you have them if your wife's done a set for French users? Mark, if you have the kit maybe you could chop up the file? I write a utility to chop up and compress the wave file based on some of the C
