firefox. java. 64 bit. bleah!
Found this <http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux-amd64.html#java-sun>, and I remember the plugins directory... except firefox 3.6.11, I can't find any, not in ~/.mozilla, not in /usr/lib64/mozilla. Anyone have a clue for the poor? mark

calendar
Folks, My manager's asked me about something that can run on our CentOS boxes that can connect to an (bleah!) Exchange server's calendar. It doesn't look like Lightening can, and from some googling, it appears that Evolution claims to, but.... It's got to be able to set dates, etc. Can Evolution? Any other suggestions? mark

bleah
Not to be a bitch, but I've asked several times about some basic questions or examples to clarify the essentials for configuration. What do some of the parameters mean? Expecially the ones that are mentioned only one in a paragraph and no where else in the documentation or wiki. (ie: login_process_per_use) And there have been a few others as well. that I won't bother to repeat. But

coolest startup?
...ing Rails? I don''t think "37 Signals" is a fair answer. I''m curious as to what kind of other developments are happening. Are there a lot of startups using Rails in the first place? Or do most of you who are lucky enough to do Rails for a living (I''m coding Java, bleah) work in large corporations? Or is it somewhere in between? Giles (ps, yes, if you''re wondering, my reasons for asking aren''t entirely hypothetical)

OEM suggestions
Hey, folks, I'm working on finding some new compute nodes. What I'm looking for is a 64 core box, with room enough for a lot of RAM. I can get it from Dell, or HP (bleah! a 4U box), but I need to have three quotes, y'know. We've gotten a lot from Penguin in the past, but they're all Supermicro, and we've had a *lot* of problems with the 64 core boxes, so I'm looking for another vendor. Suggestions? Recommendations? People to run the other wa...

problems with apache downgrade
There was an upgrade on a couple of our servers yesterday, mid-afternoon our time, of httpd and httpd-devel, and suddenly SiteMinder (bleah) stopped working correctly, and is now pegging a cpu, according to top. So, as a last resort, I tried downgrading both of them. When I did so, the server that uses ssl *erased* mod-ssl, not downgrading it, and I'll have to find where I can get the previous version tomorrow... but that shouldn...

In either case, the TLER should be 7 sec, so it should work. The ones to watch out for are the desktop grade, like the green (bleah!!!), which have a TLER of something like 2 MINUTES. That will *not* work in a server.... mark "why, yes, we did try them"

OT Open Cobol
Hi, Has anyone on this list had any success with installing and using Open Cobol on RH or CentOS? Any pointers would be very welcome. I have Googled and am working with Vince on the Open Cobol mailing list to try to resolve installation problems. ChrisG

CentOS-6, SELInux, Ruby-on-Rails, Passenger and Kernel-2.6.32
We run a project administration system web application call 'Redmine'. I have been trying for ages, without success, to get SELinux and Passenger -- essentially a fast-cgi replacement Apache module built specifically for Rails -- to run together. I have found that the latest versions of the Passenger Apache module are supposed to work on CentOS-6, but not with the stock kernel. See:

This is nothing systemd specific - and keep in mind /var/tmp is a persistent temp area unlike /tmp which as it's tmpfs by default is of course emptie don boot.
