symbolic linking to library files
...a multi-user Linux box, with R 2.7.1 compiled and
installed to make usee of ACML (Opteron chips). The library files (packages)
are installed to /usr/local/lib64/R/library
Everything works as it should, except for the following. Say I have a user
(an R developer) who has developed a package called Blaster. We'll call the
user guru. Now, /home/guru/Blaster, contains the needed directory structure
to do a normal install (i.e., R CMD INSTALL Blaster), but the user can't
write to /usr/local/lib64/R/library. Sure, said user can do a local install,
so *he* can use Blaster, but we'd like it so...

creative VoIP blaster & *
Ok,
I've googled for 15+ minutes, and have yet to find a usable answer, so I'm
going to annoy everyone and ask here.
I have, in my posession, a creative VoIP blaster. I have installed the
fobbit LKM and I can see the device. Can I use it with asterisk in any
meaningful way, shape, or form? I'd love to be able to buy an IP phone,
ATA, or FXO card, but lack the funds at the moment (won't get into why a

I'm looking at getting the Dev light applications from digium
and I have 2 Createive Labs voip blasters. The voip blaster supports the
G.723.1 codec. After looking at Gnome meeting it does not talk unless you have a
quicknet card for it. Can I make calls using asterisk and the digium cards to the Voip blaster.

Sound cards for Centros
What sound cards are recognized by Centros? I have installed it on an
old 400MHz IBM Aptiva that has Crystal Audio built-in. However it does
not seem to recognize that, nor a Sound Blaster, nor a Sound Blaster 16
that I have tried.
Any cheapo cards that it would recognize?

Samba and Win viruses

We have had our server blocked as it is probing port 25 and the security
office are convinced that we are infected by MyDoom. Obviously, they
think that it is a windows system.
My question: Is it actually possible for a Samba system to be infected
with Win viruses such as MyDoom or Blaster?

Sound Blaster Live! 24bit how to get it support?
Hi,
I used to use the onboard sound card(SIS) and it work well with centos
4 stock and unsupported kernel. I have just got a new Sound Blaster
Live! 24bit and installed it on the system. The current kernel does not
detect the sound card. Is there anyway i can make this card run on
centos? This is a fairly new card, why the stock kernel does not have
the driver module compiled from it?

[1.2]StarCraft 2 - Very Slow On Good Computer?

When running game "StarCraft 2", the game is very slow?
My specs are as follows:
O.S.: Ubuntu 10.04 32bit
CPU: Intel Core2Quad 2.4GHz 4 core CPU
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 8400GS
(nVidia 195.36.24 graphic driver)
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE

Liveice & Icecast...help
...t the grinding buzzing, and it is very loud. I'm
feeding to the line in on my sound card from a portable radio. I get the
same effect though whether the audio is plugged into the sound card or not.
I imagine this is a hardware problem with the sound card, but it's a run of
the mill Sound Blaster AWE32 I think and I figured it would be the most
supported. I recompiled the kernel to get the audio to work, and if I send
an audio file directly to the audio device I can hear it just fine. It's
only when I start up liveice that I get the distortion. I'm kind of a
newbie at this audio...

I have a few old video cards that I want to get rid of. I've been suggested

them for development / testing purposes.

music complexity
hi,
Is it true the flac encoder can compress music better when the
complexity of the music is low?
I'm compressing some tunes of old MS DOS games (pc speaker, sound
blaster 16 OPL3 chip music) and I saw a *huge* compression ratio (some
files where only 1/3th of the original file in filesize after
compressing to flac), so I was wondering if less complex music always
means better compression.

Sounds like your record volume is set WAY to high or more likely you are
recording from the wrong input. Make sure that it's the _line_in_ that's

Wine 1.1.7: Sound regression?

Weird permissions problem
Hello,
I'm having a permissions problem I just can't quite figure out. I can not access
any directory that is owned by my userid if the permissions are 700. If I change them
to 770, with my default group on the directory, then I can access the directory.
This was working fine with Fedora 19 for several years, and it broke when I upgraded
to Fedora 22, and still broken with F23.

Can't get dovecot to see email folders
So I'm very frustrated, I've spent the better part of a day trying to
get dovecot 2.0.1 working...Most of the documentation on the Wiki seems
to think you are running an older version and therefore very little of
it applies.
I'm running 2.0.1 on OpenSolaris.
I seem to have 2 remaining issues:
1) Dovecot is not able to determine the home directory
2) IMAP clients can not get to
