how to generate a column based on other columns in a data frame
...y, there is no 'site' entry. I would like to add a column of 'site' based on the coordinates of samples so that samples from the same sites have the same site ID like S1, S2,.... Help: add arrows on a filled.contour figure

No y-axis label using png on linux
...my problem of no y-axis label using png on linux. If I use postscript device or X11 device, it is fine. On Windows, it works with png. I have tried different versions of R and none of them works. problems in read.table
...asn't a problem (I just edited the dataset in Openoffice speadsheet). This time I have to deal with many large datasets containing commuting flow data. I appreciate if anyone could give me a hint or clue to get out of this problem. I have a .dat file called "1081.dat": 1001 means Birmingham, AL.
