how to generate a column based on other columns in a data frame
...y, there is no 'site' entry. I would like to add a column of
'site' based on the coordinates of samples so that samples from the same
sites have the same site ID like S1, S2,....
How to do this in R way? Thanks.

Help: add arrows on a filled.contour figure

The peoblem is that the arrows use the whole device area, including the key on the right hand side of the filled contour. Does anyone know how to work out this problem?

Help: draw 3 filled.contour on one page
...3 filled.contour plots on one page, but failed. It returns
"Error in plot.new() : Figure margins too large".

No y-axis label using png on linux
...my problem of no y-axis
label using png on linux. If I use postscript device or X11 device, it
is fine. On Windows, it works with png. I have tried different versions
of R and none of them works.

R-alpha: Compiling 0.49 on IRIX6.1

delay in MeetMe
Hi All!
I am facing some delay in conferencing.
Using DIAX for Voip calls ,no hardware used yet
I am using MeetMe to achieve conferencing and am having a lot of delays.

how to extract characters from a character string

and a space and N at the end of the string. What functions I should use?

problems in read.table
...asn't a problem (I
just edited the dataset in Openoffice speadsheet). This time I have to
deal with many large datasets containing commuting flow data. I
appreciate if anyone could give me a hint or clue to get out of this
problem.
I have a .dat file called "1081.dat": 1001 means Birmingham, AL.
I imported this .dat file using read.table like
tmp<-read.table('CTPP3_ANSI/MPO3441_ctpp3_sumlv944.dat',header=T)
Then I got this error message:
