summarize logical string
Hello everyone, I am a newbie, working on a gene clustering problem, and I have problems in summarizing a logical string into number of repeats of each value. In other words, how could I obtain from 0 1 1 1 0 0 0 0 1 1 0 1 0 0 this: 1 3 4 2 1 1 2 so a string that gives me the number of repeated values, no matter zeros or ones. I've been diving in the manuals and the mailing list but,

variance components
Please forgive the cross posting. I sent this to Medstats and have not received any response. I am looking for a good written explanation of components of variance (a.k.a variance components), in particular as they are used in genetic analyses. Does anyone have a suggestion? I am interested in books, articles and on-line material. I intent to give the material to some of my students none of whom

How to create a chromosome location map by locus ID
Hi, I'm trying to make a chromosomal map in R by using the locus. I have a list of genes and their locus, and I want to visualise that so you can see if there are multiple genes on a specific place on a chromosome. A example of what I more or less want is below: http://www.nabble.com/file/p21474206/untitled.JPG untitled.JPG The genes and locus are here:

Left censored responses in mixed effects models
Dear R Fellow-Travellers: What is your recommended way of dealing with a left-censored response (non-detects) in (linear Gaussian) mixed effects models? Specifics: Response is a numeric positive measurement (of volume, actually); but when it falls below some unknown and slightly random value (depending on how the sample is prepared and measured), it cannot be measured and is recorded as 0.
