Can't get resolution higher than 1280x1024 - Centos 5
Hello all, I can't get higher than 1280x1024 resolution (60hz, 24 depth).
I'm running Centos 5 x86 64bit on AMD Athlon64 x2 4600, Geforce 6200 PCI
express. Even as root, that is the highest I can set the display. I am
guessin the kernel does not support my combo? I've also tried Nvidia's
driver from their site, this is what I get:

Freeing pv space for snapshots
After upgrading my HD, I am now wishing I left some space for doing
snapshots. Is there a way to free up some space so I can get some free
PE?
Right now I have this:
# vgdisplay
--- Volume group ---
VG Name VolGroup00
System ID
Format lvm2
Metadata Areas 1
Metadata Sequence No 7
VG Access read/write
VG Status resizable

The amazing smartctl -a /dev/hda
I finally fixed my drive error problem. This has been going on quite a
while. I've posted before with no success on getting this fixed.
I was getting these errors.
Dec 4 04:03:10 bikesn4x4s kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Dec 4 04:03:10 bikesn4x4s kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 {
DriveStatusError BadCRC }
And now for the amazing smartctl -a command. The output actually had a
link that advised and directed me to a link to upgrade my firmware,...

Can't load Centos 5 on laptop
I can load Centos 4.4 fine, but 5 won't even begin to load, it can't even
read the kernel from the CD. I got another cheaper laptop, and that one
loads fine with Centos 5, the same DVD I try in the Pro-star laptop. What
would cause that? I've never seen it before. I'm trying to load DVD x86
32bit DVD. Thanks.

Upgrading to larger HD with LVM
What's the easiest way to transition to a larger HD when using LVM2? I'm
running Centos 4.4. I'm going from a 20gb HD to a 40gb HD. I've already
DD'd it to the 40gb HD. So now I have 20gb of unused space. Ideally, I'd
like to make it one big physical space for the logical space instead of
making another physical partition to expand the logical. Here is what I
have now

video capture via nvidia g3, cento5 (rhel5) - arrrgghhh
I've never messed with video capture on a linux system, and someone point
me the right direction? I've been googling like crazy, and can't seem to
get any good pointers. I'm trying to get some kind of video capture
working and eventually get a live cam setup and security setup with motion
sensing. I've given up on getting my USB webcam to work. I'm now trying
via the

can't change login screen resolution
After boot up, on the login screen, I can't seem to find how to change the
resolution. I've have it set at one resolution after login for all users,
but still, the login screen remains the same. It's a bit annoying because
I get a warning message from my monitor of incorrect settings and
sometimes it wacks out. I think the refresh rate is what is causing it.
Thanks.

LVM repairing or back to regular ext3?
Can anyone point me in the right direction for correcting errors on an HD
when using LVM? I've tried e2fsck and indicates bad block. I've tried
with -b 8193, 16384, and 32768 and no good.
I've found some info about reiserfsck on google, but this utility doesn't
seem to be included in Centos4.3. I did find it on my old FC1 box.
I am thinking now I really should have went with
