SYSLINUX 3.08-pre10, including "bigraw" support
I have released 3.08-pre10, which includes a version of 'raw' support
which should work when the CPU is in big real mode (called 'bigraw',
appropriately enough.)
Note that it will ALWAYS put DS and ES in big mode; there isn't any
really sane way to test if they should be or not.

about the 'length' arg of vector()
...r specifying the desired length. Double
values will be coerced to integer: supplying an argument of
length other than one is an error.
Since long vectors are supported, it doesn't seem to be true anymore
that "double values will be coerced to integer":

At least not always...

error when calling seek() twice on a gzfile connection
Hi,
I get an "internal error" when calling seek() twice on a gzfile
connection.
Create a gzip file:
bigraw <- sample(charToRaw("abcdef"), 30000000, replace=TRUE)
save(bigraw, file="bigraw.rda")
Open it:
con <- gzfile("bigraw.rda", "rb")

push-pop ordering error found in memdisk
H. Peter Anvin,
The following problem came to my attention with memdisk. I cannot claim the
credit, but wanted to be sure the information made it back into the program
for the benefit of all users...
In file memdisk.asm, in respect of the operation of the raw and bigraw
options, the order of pop instructions does not correspond to the order
registers are pushed;

interesting problem...
Hi,
Thanks a lot for the great tools at syslinux. I have an interesting problem
for which i am trying to use memdisk. I have a cluster of 40 machines (same
hardware config) all needing a bios flash. Rather than doing it manually, i
am trying to use the PXE mode. So i am using memdisk to boot an image of my
bios flash floppy over the network.
my platform configuration is supermicro motherboards

Problem with memdisk and DOS on USB
...it ends at "Please insert
a system disk and press any key to continue...", I tried all the way
from memdisk-3.54 to 2.13 and 1.76 freezes at Booting.
Finally I had a Windows ME boot image, tried with memdisk-3.52, it
does not boot, I added safeint, and everything works! At last! Using
raw/bigraw make it stop at "Starting Windows Millenium Recovery...",
but with safeint it seems to be working perfectly.
I would like to add that for every image I tried, I tried to use
safeint, raw and bigraw, and after hours of trying, I'm giving up. I
also tried loading it from GRUB Legacy, w...

pxelinux / memdisk / afud408 freeze.
...n just running afud408 (not attempting to update
bios, although it freezes then as well.)
I was using pxelinux/memdisk 3.36, I upgrade to 3.51, and also fell back
to 2.11 all have the same issue.
I have tried all the switches for memdisk that I saw posted on the
memdisk webpage (non wiki). raw/bigraw caused the image to freeze before
even booting. (frozen cursor before loading the boot sector?). The disk
image is a Windows 95 boot image that I used winimage to expand to
2.88MB. I use this image for all my bios upgrade needs.
This seems to occur on a large amount of MSI's latest offering...

memdisk not booting .ima unless there is a floppy drive
...4th, A HP/Compaq dx2200 MT, memdisk will not boot the .ima unless the machine has a floppy drive in it, it just gets to 'loading boot sector... booting...' then a flashing cursor under it. I've tried disabling the floppy controller, setting the a: drive to 'none', using raw and bigraw, but no luck.
This is with SYSLINUX 3.61
Typically we have more of the HP machines then the other 3 types....

booting dell diagnostic hd image with isolinux
Dell has an ISO image (Dell version 5061A0, A5061) available here
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?releaseid=R102625&fileid=132637
which contains an ISO with an hard disk image and no-emulation boot.
I've estracted the hard disk image (size=2048000) and I'd like to boot it
with isolinux.
I tried
kernel memdisk
append initrd=dell5061.img

PXELINUX hanging when booting floppy images
...ous motherboards, disk
diagnostic tools, memtest86+, etc.
I've gotten memtest86+ to work (using the .bin), and some of the disk
images work - however, some disk images will not boot. All of the images
were pulled from working, bootable floppies. I've tried with and without
the floppy, raw, bigraw, c/h/s options - same result every time, it
starts loading DOS, then hangs.
I'm testing these in VMware Server if that helps - it explains why the
drive tests bomb when I actually try to test the "hard drive," at least.
If anyone could offer any advice, I would appreciate it.

memdisk image problems on shuttle hardware
...en spits out Operating System not found
(or some such, basically the image loads but doesn't work)
I think I saw at one point that an ancient version of syslinux/memdisk
worked fine (2x era), but I am not positive. I will be sure to test that
asap to confirm.
I have tried the various raw/bigraw/safeint/edd/noedd without luck.
Any chance you would have access to a shuttle you can test against?
otherwise I will investigate setting up a serial console to the box and
getting you remote access.
I have tested against 3.70 and still have the same problem. By chance is
there a way to set a p...

memdisk from 3.36 crashing on Dell PowerEdge 1955
Hello list,
I had to boot a Dell Diagnostic Disk today, and tried doing this via
memdisk - which was when I noticed memdisk isn't working for me at all,
neither from pxelinux nor syslinux.
After trying around with 'raw', 'bigraw' and the like I noticed it
doesn't even do anything when just using:
LABEL diag
KERNEL memdisk
.. when I try that:
boot: diag
nothing more happens. I tried enabling debug tracers but didn't get any
more information ...
How do I debug this? How can I help fixing this?
Kind rega...

Is There an Alternative to MEMDISK ?
This isn't an esp urgent issue, but I'd like to use a certain RAM diagnostic (Doc Mem) which I've already posted a note about a couple of months ago. Simply won't work booting the floppy disk image via MEMDISK. In the interim, I've tried to resolve this by changing things on my side. I'm pretty sure it's a XMS incompatibility, as it fails differently depending on

Bug-report: Memdisk regression for XMGR DOS memory manager
For the boot floppy at http://superkeen.com/peacecorpsfiles/FUZOMA14.IMG
using memdisk from syslinux version 3.72 boots correctly, but for
memdisk versions newer than 3.72 (I tested 3.73, 3.75, 3.85, and 3.86)
all hang at boot with the following message:

Making DOS/Win9x HD Image for memdisk
...9;t working! Memdisk loads the Image and boots the
HD! The error message is something like this:
I/O Device Error...
Replace disk and press any key
The interessting thing is that this message appears in German and the only
german thing in this VM is the dos installation.
I tried to use raw or bigraw mode, but this doesn't solve the problem.
I tried also to create the image like this: dd if=/dev/hda of=dos.img bs=512
count=[number of sectors]

Get MEMDISK parameters from WinPE 32/64-bit?
Hi.
I'm working on replacing a PXELINUX/MEMDISK loaded DOS based
installation image with a PXELINUX/MEMDISK loaded WinPE ISO image. So
far everything seems to work well (appending "bigraw" to memdisk solved
booting problems on several machines), but I kind of miss the option of
using getargs.com to get/set environment variables from the memdisk
command line.
Is there any way to access memdisk command line arguments from within
WinPE (x86/win32 and hopefully amd64/win64)?

syslinux -> Windows 2008R2

are "working as they should".
What I've tried so far is to just load the .iso with install media using
memdisk. The iso got downloaded and asked to press key to run CD/DVD but
then continued to boot from hdd.

* kernel win2008R2/memdisk*
* append iso bigraw initrd=win2008R2/W2k8R2PXE.img*
Second idea is to use WinPE and then create a boot script to get the real
media but so far I can't get the WinPE to load.
