Keeping idmap in sync cross DC
Hi Guys, I have run into a very interesting problem using GPO's on our DC's. As you may (or may not) know, we have migrated to a pure Samba4 (Git stable branch checkout) AD network. I can't be happier. *Kudos to the Samba team* We are running to DC's, DC1 and DC2, both full fledged DC's, both running CentOS 6.9, fully up to date. For the sysvol partition I decided to run a

GPO, multiple DCs, sites and sysvol
Hi list, I recently realized that using multiple DC has a major drawback when using Samba In my understanding, in a classical AD environment, sysvol share is supposed to be a DFS share. This means that proximity rules are applied when accessing to it. When using samba it seems that we face a classical round-robin DNS, which can lead to the situation where a machine on site A tries to fetch

Question on sysvol replication, GPOs and sysvolreset
Hello, I am wondering whether I have all pieces together for a scenatio with two DCs and GPOs being used. Obviously the GPOs need to be replicated between DCs, I use "osync" as per the samba wiki (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Bidirectional_Rsync/osync_based_SysVol_replication_workaround). In that documentation the sysvolreset command is issued every time on the second DC after a successful sync. On the other hand, the page https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Sysvolreset claims that one should never run sysvolreset or even sysvolcheck (!?...

samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset questions
...were to follow https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory In the Built-in Groups GID Mappings section the last thing it says to do is run samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset. If I skip that step will the replication still work? On https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Bidirectional_Rsync/osync_based_SysVol_replication_workaround they actually recommend running samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset every time osync runs. If I skip the steps that say to reset the sysvol is that going to cause problems? If resetting the sysvol is required, how do I keep it from causing problems? FWIW, I am t...

Sysvol replication between DC
Hi, I would like to know which the best way to replicate Sysvol between my DC Samba 4 is with Rsync/Osync, as per the article below? https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Bidirectional_Rsync/osync_based_SysVol_replication_workaround I have 3 Samba 4 DC. Regards, M?rcio Bacci

Yes, something like. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Bidirectional_Rsync/Unison_based_SysVol_replication_workaround https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Active_Directory_Sites and if needed you can also set a "prefferred" server per OU or site in GPO. Moving roaming profiles between domains, risky?
Hai, Sorry for the late reply, but yes, this is a risky move. Did you make sure this the DOMAIN SID's are exact the same between old and new servers? This: rsync -av --progress --xattrs --rsh=ssh Does not copy the (windows) acl's. Look at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Bidirectional_Rsync/Unison_based_SysVol_replication_workaround Howto to this with rsync and unison, the combination catches the acl also. I suggest the following, or do the copy from a windows client or the following. Create a new user on the new server and login /logout with a pc. Check the user profile right...

Moving roaming profiles between domains, risky?
OK, now i've to start to move the big part of my users from my old NT-like domains to my new AD domain. I've setup roaming profile in the new domain following the wiki (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Roaming_Windows_User_Profiles, 'using windows ACL') and for new profiles works like a charm. But i've tried to move/copy old profile to the new domain, and seems work, with
