rsync 2.6.2 doesn't work with GNU inetutils rsh
Hi, Not sure when this stopped working, because I'm sure it used to. This is the cygwin build of rsync, with the standard cygwin rsh (which is a fairly old GNU inetutils 1.3.2). ~=> rsync --rsh=rsh -vv bibble: opening connection using rsh bibble rsync --server --sender -vvr . rsh: unknown option -- server Try `rsh --help' for more information. rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes read so far) rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at /home/lapo/packaging/tmp/rsync-2.6....

Linux, wine and lightroom
...o run windows programs under the Linux OS) and Lightroom 2 to view RAW files (which only requires a gig of RAM and a gig of HHD) the limited specification of a cheaper machine would seem, on paper, to work. An option to the Wine / Lightroom combo would be to run a RAW capable Linux application like Bibble. I have absolutely no experience of Linux so I'd be gratefull to hear from anyone who may have considered this option, perhaps tried it and what opinions you may have formed. Many thanks in advance, Tim

Authenticating against a Windows 2000 DC?
I apologize in advance if this is a FAQ, but I couldn't find the FAQ document for this list. I also could not find anything relevant in other Samba documentation sources like http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba.html. There seems to be plenty of information about using Samba *as* a DC, but I want to know if I can use Samba *with* a Windows 2000 DC. We have two DCs running Windows 2000, a W2K

Routes
hi all, I want to move some routing tasks out of the router and into the controller. The goal is to make Merb feel less like mod_rewrite and give the user more control at the controller. The new Router is simple: it takes the path_info (not the whole request) then outputs a controller class and some parameters from the path matching. The rest of the routing would be done at the controller level.

Wide links and insecure wide links
Thank you. So, If I understand correctly, "ordinary" "wide links = yes", means Samba *will* traverse an existing symlink that points outside the root of the share, if permissions allow. However because it *also* disables SMB1 Unix extensions, it *also* prevents the user from creating or modifying symlinks on the share, so in wffect it inherently prevents this being

Wide links and insecure wide links
...ase what?) No, it's nothing to do with underlying filesystem boundaries. What it means is that for a share definition of: path = /foo/bar that any link pointing to a file object that does *not* start with /foo/bar is disallowed by the server if "wide links = no", (e.g. /tmp or /foo/bibble) and all link paths are allowed if "wide links = yes". > Thanks for the help! > > Last thing - how can this helpful info added to smb.conf doc/man pages where > it might help others? Add to the Samba wiki ?

C++ streams in shared library in cause R to hang? (linux)
...C++ streams, specifically operator>>() and operator<<(). From the debugger output (below) it seems like it could be __flockfile() related (maybe a deadlock of some sort?). Has anyone encountered anything like this before? Or anything obvious jump to mind for anyone? Thank you!
