Centos on the decTOP?
https://store.dataevolution.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=DT%2D7001
For $99 a nice little system with AMD Geode GX500 128Mb memory and 10Gb
disk. Upgrade to 256Mb and off we go?
Replace the hard drive with a Flash card, and run off a battery pack?
Add Bluetooth (lower power draw that 802.11) and run IP over it to your
desktop.... It does have ethernet, so a crossover cable works too.

unnecessary /proc requirement in 3.1.1
Hi. Thanks for good program.
I'm quite paranoid guy and dont beleave when some program offer me "use
chroot = yes". Instead i jail program manually.
I was at 3.0.9 and all was fine. Manual chroot only requires files dir,
config and personal tmp. 3.1.1 now also want whole /proc only for
/proc/self/fd/X instead just fd number. Whole /proc is serious security
risk for me. Why?

Earth (MARS) package with categorical predictors
It appears to be legitimate to include multi-level categorical and continuous variables in defining the model for earth (e.g. y ~ cat + cont1 + cont2) but is it also then possible use categoricals in the predict method using the earth result? I tried but it returns an error which is not very informative.
Thanks

[PATCH] export retained initrd in debugfs
...ffect, initrd_start and initrd_end are not cleared when the
initrd is retained.
After this patch, one can then copy the initrd space from debugfs and
pass it to kexec as the initrd, or do something else with it (maybe it
was an initrd not an initramfs).
Signed-off-by: Milton Miller <miltonm at bga.com>

This is a lot more reliable than extracting it via dd from /dev/mem.
Currently debugfs doesn't have a getattr even for blobs, so one has
to cp elsewhere before using kexec from kexec-tools.

ocfs2: char is not always signed
...ields need to be signed due to comparision
to -1, but only changed the type from unsigned char to char. However, it
is a compiler option if char is a signed or unsigned type. Change these
fields to signed char so the code will work with all compilers.
Signed-off-by: Milton Miller <miltonm at bga.com>

I did not look for other fields that might be char. PowerPC compilers
default to unsigned char, and aparently arm does as well from a quick
google search, to name two examples.

[Bridge] Newbie at work - need some advise/guidence please.
Hello all,
I am new to Linux Ethernet bridging. Let me first start with what I am
trying to achieve. Well you see - I am attempting to have 2 main
firewall running at the same time - one as a master and the other one as
a slave. Yes, I would like to make use of Ethernet bridging in this
scenario - as I understand it, all I need are two machines and STP
enabled. I am running Debian

New package 'ade4TkGUI', a Tcl/Tk GUI for ade4
...,
ade4TkGUI is a new package available on CRAN. It implements a Tcl/Tk
graphical user interface (GUI) for the ade4 package.
Only the most basic functions of ade4 have a GUI in this first
version : classical one-table data analysis methods (PCA, COA,
MCA, PCO, etc.), one table with groups of rows (BGA, WGA, DA),
and two-tables analysis methods (Coinertia analysis, CCA, PCAIV).

One of the benefits of using ade4TkGUI is the centralized graphical
display of the dudi objects created by ade4. A dudi is a list with

Info before I try this
Is there any more docs on this other then the blurb on beta.redhat.com?
I got a spare non-critical victim err... test machine I want to try this
on and have all the RPMS, but would really like to chew on a little
more detail before I leap.

Henri

I am confused
The beta.redhat.com blurb says that you can easily switch from ext2
to ext3, yet everything I have been told so far from this list says
no, which is it?

[PATCH]: klcc typo recognizing .S files
Trying to use klcc to compile an application I was getting
gcc: no input files. Tracked it down to filename2lang having
and extra space, causing .S files to be labeled "obj".
Signed-off-by: Milton Miller <miltonm at bga.com>

There is probably another bug that we called gcc without any
files when we were called with what we parsed as an obj file.

extract the initramfs from a kernel
Hello,
is there a way to extract an initramfs from a running kernel?
and from a kernel lying on a disk?
If yes, how?
Thanks

HDD badblocks
Hi list,
I've a notebook with C7 (1511). This notebook has 2 disk (640 GB) and
I've configured them with MD at level 1. Some days ago I've noticed some
critical slowdown while opening applications.
First of all I've disabled acpi on disks.
I've checked disk for badblocks 4 consecutive times for disk sda and sdb
and I've noticed a strange behaviour.
On sdb there are

...han the actual speaker's voice; this
won't be acceptable.
I have some restrictions on the chip I'm able to use; I'd like to use
a single-chip micro instead of, e.g. a StrongARM with support logic
and external memory. I also believe that StrongARM is available
mostly (entirely?) in BGA packages, which are impossible to
hand-solder. I need hand-soldering, low cost, and low complexity.
I guess the only way to find out is to try it. I'll make some time to
build a klunky framework around the code so I can ship speech down a
serial port, encode it, and get back the encoded data...
