Bewildered by Radeon x1650 Card - No Compiz, Blank glxgears, good frame rates?
Listmates, No response from the suse list, so I am trying here. I bought a new HIS Radeon x1650 card for my daughter's computer, and I cannot get the card to work with compiz. I thought I knew the fglrx driver pretty well, but I am stumped here. The card has 512M of Ram and sits in the AGP slot of an MSI KM2M board running openSuSE 11.0/KDE 3.59 and compiz-0.7.6-16.1. All bios setting are

grid.pack and grid.frame bewilder me
Hello R friends, I get quite confused in using the grid graphic function grid.pack( ) and grid.frame ( ). Here is a simple example: library(grid) grid.frame(name="frame1") grid.pack("frame1",rectGrob(width=unit(0.5,"npc"), height=unit(0.5,"npc"), gp=gpar(col="red"))) what I expect is a rectangle with half the default device's

Which date format to choose?
R offers a bewildering array of options when it comes to representing dates and times (e.g, as.Date, chron, strptime, zoo, etc). Can anybody recommend a document that compares the relative merit of each method? I'm not looking for help with any one method, but rather a guide that describes which method is...

samba4wins nbd_server implementation & configuration
Hi, Confused and bewildered as usual, so ask the guys who know. samba4wins is now implemented and part of the samba4 package? Is there a configuration guide? I guess nbd_server needs to be part of the equation so could you point to some resources on setup as I don't think I have noticed anything in the wiki? Proba...

Tick mark puzzle.
I am bewildered by the behaviour of tickmarks as demonstrated by the following code. (What I'm trying to do is draw a single tick mark extending from the axis all the way down to the tick label, which is two lines from the axis to make sure it doesn't overlap with the ``ordinary'' tick l...

Is there any plan to shift the CentOS announcements to refer to an alternative freely available service? Old Asterisk Release wanting to upgrade ...
...past 5+ years on RedHat and I never upgraded it before. All my Asterisk software is of the following release: 1) Asterisk 1.4.21.2 2) Libpri-1.4.4 3) Zaptel-1.4.11 I would like to move the OS to CentOS and then I thought I can at the same time ponder about upgrading Asterisk releases. However, I am bewildered by the myriad of different releases like 1.6, 1.8, 10.x, 11.x, 12.x, 13.x Can someone please give me some advice as to what release I should upgrade? Or should I just stick to 1.4.x and just upgrade DAHDI? Thanks. Regards, John Lee The contents of this e-mail are intended for the named addresse...

Standalone Update 4.8.5 -> 4.9.2 smb fails to start ERROR: failed to setup guest info.
..., but 4.8.5 works just fine. I have several other samba boxes with very similar configs (other than they are not the browse master or win server or time server) I've googled and found nothing related to 4.8 - 4.9 updates regarding this error, or I just wasn't smart enough to find it. The bewildering part is I have 2 other Arch servers with practically identical configs and they handled the update just fine - so I'm not sure where to go from here. The only difference between the boxes is that this one has probably been in service the longest, going back to at least samba 4.1 -- if that...

mirrors still catching up and -01.iso images?
...seeing different .iso images at different times. We really need to see consistent content on the distribution mirrors. Some of this may still be churn and one mirror may have run out of disk space (or otherwise be waiting for manual intervention). "Missing value representation in Excel before extraction to R with RODBC"
Dear list, How should missing values be expressed in Excel before extraction to R via RODBC. I'm bewildered. Sometimes the representation with NA in Excel appears to work and shows up in R as <NA> but sometimes the use of NA in Excel changes the whole vector to NA's. Blank or nothing or NA as representation for missing values in Excel with dateformat gives NA's of the whole vector i...

Non-gnome desktops on CentOS-7
Is there a writeup somewhere detailing how one installs a non-gnome desktop? I have installed both KDE and Mate and both fail with the same error. (EE) no screens found. I am a bit bewildered that neither the official KDE from centos nor the semi-official mate from epel pull in as part of their install the Xserver. I am also bothered by the fact that installing a desktop other than gnome 3 does not in fact provide one that can be started from the command line. I am not trying anyt...

Phone routing - curious what others are doing?
...script called from my Asterisk dialplan to look at a list of area codes and exchanges to determine which ones are local (no or little cost) under my current Verizon plan. I route calls outside of my local limits to Gizmo. It works fine but when I called Verizon to change (lower) my service it was a bewildering spider web of rates structures just in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. It made me wonder why I send any of my calls to Verizon! I was able to cut my Verizon cost down by about half. I wonder if any others are splitting calls like this or just biting the bullet and going 100% voip??? With...

[LLVMdev] Disassembly arbitrary machine-code byte arrays
...s take place in one fell swoop or do I parse the stream one instruction at a time? Can I ask it to "decode the next 10 bytes"? What follows is my (feeble) attempt at getting started. It probably doesn't help that I am only familiar with C and Objective-C and find C++ syntax absolutely bewildering. Kind regards, Aidan Steele int main (int argc, const char *argv[]) { LLVMInitializeARMTargetInfo(); LLVMInitializeARMTargetMC(); LLVMInitializeARMAsmParser(); LLVMInitializeARMDisassembler(); const llvm::Target Target; llvm::OwningPtr<const llvm::MCSubtargetInfo> STI(Target.cr...

TimeZone Help - Finding TimeZone codes
I have looked at ?as.POSIXct ?POSIXct and many of the references that are on those pages. I am bewildered with timezones. Is there a way to get what would go into tz="" for making a function that uses POSIXct to be able to be used in all of the timezones in just the united states? This is for both windows and mac... this is the function that I am wanting to use it with library(maptools...

Are you experienced in SAS ...
...portant thing, is the analysis of mixed linear models. One can do the same analyses in both languages. The difference is that the SAS syntax for specifying such a model, and its output, is comprehensible to the human mind, which is what I'm equipped with. The R/Splus syntax (which involves the bewildering notion of ``strata'') is not. Actually, for this sort of problem, I prefer Minitab to SAS. It has the same sytax as SAS, and is much more user-friendly. Aside from that, R/Splus wins. I find data manipulation far ***easier*** in R than in SAS. SAS had ***one*** data structure: The...

Semantics of sequences in R
...quot; "Err" TRUE TRUE TRUE rle_len 2 "Err" "Err" "Err" "Err" "Err" Alas, this tabulation, rather than clarifying things for me, just confused me more -- the diverse treatment of sequences by various operations is all rather bewildering. Wouldn't it be easier to teach, learn, and use R if there were more consistency in the treatment of sequences? I understand that in long-running projects like S/R, there is an accumulation of contributions by a variety of authors, but perhaps the time has come for some cleanup at least...
