* as VM for legacy PBX?
Hi, all. I've got an old Telrad PBX with an Emagen(?) voicemail box. The
VM box, itself, is beginning to show its age. Big-time. We're thinking it
might be time to look for a replacement. I'd love to install Asterisk
with an FXO card or something, but I don't think it supports whatever
protocol legacy PBX's used to speak to VM systems. If someone can tell me

LLVM Social in Austin - Nov. 15?
Hi everyone,
There seems to be a good level of interest in this; so we should settle on a time and location. It has been pointed out that previous socials were held at http://bbrovers.com/ - we seem to have a preference for the availability of alcoholic beverages, and otherwise no strong opinions have been expressed.
Logistically, we should pick someplace likely to have flexibility regarding attendance (we have a handful or two of confirmed attendees plus some unknown number of others -- some fraction of whom are from out of town). BB Rovers seems to be 18...

LLVM Social in Austin - Nov. 15?
Hello again,
Because the LLVM in HPC workshop will be in Austin on Nov. 15th (http://llvm-hpc2-workshop.github.io/), we'll have an anomalously-high density of LLVM developers in Austin that day. I think it would be a great evening to have an LLVM social!
I'm not familair with the Austin area, but I've cc'd some folks who are (or at least were) in Austin, so hopefully we can get

OT: SysAdmin Stories
Hello,
I'm compiling a collection of stories from the systems administrator
trenches. They can be short or long, funny or about a particularly
challenging problem or period, or even something that appeared very
technically challenging and ended up being something very simple. Stories
which are more political would be ok so long as they do not have an agenda
or can be interpreted as a

Asterisk Evening in Melbourne (again!) next Thursday
...terisk, you're invited
to join us for the second in an irregularly scheduled casual evening to talk
about Asterisk, VOIP, networks, and just generally get geeky about IP phone
stuff. About a dozen of us got together a couple of months ago, and had a
good time chatting about all things Asterisk. Beverages were also consumed.
Anyone with an interest is welcome; from Asterisk Gods to newbies who have
recently downloaded it, from people administering several hundred seats to
people playing with it at home and annoying their families.
When: Next Thursday evening, the 16th, at 7pm.

If you still have a backup of /etc from the Ubuntu install, there might be some clues in /etc/cups about the duplex settings (or which drivers support duplex,

Strategy for persisting row filter variables in pagination?
...39;m not seeing right off.
I''m imagining the pagination link_to''s will need to include the filter
variables so they are persistent also. So ":s => "Summer", :c =>
"Beverage", :t => "Cold" creates urls with added
"?s=Summer&c=Beverages&t=Cold" for example. Is there a prettier way to
persist the variables? Maybe iterate through possible #? of params
within the method?
Thanks,
DAN

red wines & tannin
I find that certain red wines(and only particular wines) cause me to
have headaches. I suspect this is because they contain more tannin than
other reds. How do I know about the tannin content when I buy a bottle?
Do wred wines from certain areas have more tannin than from other areas?
Or is it merely a trial & error process?
thanks, Howard Richler
