Samba 3 as PDC with Debian Linux server and Windows XP clients
...w what I should be doing next? Part of my
confusion is whether I need to move or otherwise re-set existing
user-logins (for Unix, currently matched but not synchronised in the
samba database) and passwords for them to act as individual profiles
for XP.
Many thanks for any help

Can't join my domain
Guys and dolls,
Greetings, I hope you all are in good health, great spirits and your glasses
never empty.
I have a samba, openldap question.
I am trying to setup a FC-4 box to be a PDC for a small network of about 150
users. I was following the HOWTO on the SAMBA site. Everything seems to be
fine however I cannot join the domain. I get the error "User name could not
be found." The

initialise_wins failing - failed to open wins.tdb
...or was Permission denied
Now I've tried to google for wins.tdb and can't find much on it, other
than it should be located in /var/lib/samba (which it isn't).
Any ideas for where it might have gone (I haven't deleted it in anyway)?
or what the issue might be with this?

linux -> windows special characters in filenames problems
I'm running Samba 3.32 on my linux server to share files with the windows
computers on the network. My problem is that windows doesn't support some
special characters in filenames, like ' : ', that linux has no problem with.
So something (not sure if it's Samba or windows) is mangling directory/file
names containing that character into 8.3 names, which makes it very
difficult

I have a samba PDC/BDC setup with a small number of W2k clients.
Not too long ago I set up a set of new servers on fresh Fedora 1 boxes
using Samba 3.0.1 and migrated my LDAP to the new schema. It was all
working quite well until recently.
Suddenly, when I try to change permissions on a windows share (from the
windows box), after I give the root password, I get a message that "The

workgroup name, small nmdb bug in 2.0.6
...b
and this is where the file is. Changes to smb.conf are noticed and acted
on EXCEPT for the "workgroup = XXX" line. The only way I could get nmbd
to use the workgroup name in smb.conf was via -s
/usr/local/daemon/samba/lib/smb.conf
This has been done but it does look like a bug.

Build a special RPM
Hi,
I want to build a single RPM that has more than one software in it and a
different name from them.
Let's imagine for the sake of example that i want to make an RPM called
databases.rpm that installs both MySQL and Postgres.
How can i do this with a single spec file ?
I've googled for an hour or two and found no info about this issue.
Can someone enlighten me, please ?

CallerID retain on internal transfer
I was just looking through the Wiki for some info on how to retain the
original caller's callerid when make transfers to internal extensions, and I
came across the parameter below:
useincomingcalleridonzaptransfer=yes
There is nothing in the zapata.conf file from vers. 1.2.7 so I am wondering
if this is still a valid parameter. If not, does anyone know how I can do
this?
Thanks,
