Help with Logit Model
Hello, I have a bit of a tricky puzzle with trying to implement a logit model as described in a paper. The particular paper is on horseracing and they explain a model that is a logit trained "per race", yet somehow the coefficients are combined across all the training races to come up with a final set of coefficients. My understanding is that they maximize log likelihood across the

I was hoping to scale the nodes according to their individual betweeness score. Betweenness can be calculated for each node in the example above, using: betweenness (dat.edg) # Giving the output: [1] 4 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 3 0 Hope you can help ... many thanks, tom Thomas Rawdon, Incursion Investigator (Animals) Investigation and Diagnostic Centre | Investigation R...

removing daylight savings in R
Hi all, I've been having some trouble with times in regards to daylight savings in R version 2.8.1. I have an ORACLE database that R is importing data in from, for the 2am and 2:30am time intervals for the dates that daylight savings starts the times are getting read as NA values into R. I'm also finding that if I open a R workspace from version 6.2.2,the datetimes are

Clunky Xorg with latest 6.7 upgrade?
Is it just me or does Xorg/Gnome seem slow and clunky to any other desktop users once the 6.7 upgrade is done? $ uname -a Linux CentOS501.homegroannetwork 2.6.32-573.1.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Sat Jul 25 17:05:50 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ cat /etc/centos-release CentOS release 6.7 (Final) Top shows PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 32160 root

Woodpeckers Revisited
Just when I thought I couldn't be wrong, I was wrong. We have woodpeckers that drill into the arial telephone cables, and water seeps through the holes and partially grounds the tip and/or ring wires causing hum. I thought the hum/buz on my lines was a telco problem. The Qwest HQ noise team assures me that my lines are within spec. Sure enough, when I listen on the test set the lines

optimization problem in R ... can this be done?
Im trying to ascertain whether or not the facilities of R are sufficient for solving an optimization problem I've come accross. Because of my limited experience with R, I would greatly appreciate some feedback from more frequent users. The problem can be delineated as such: A utility function, we shall call g is a function of x, n ... g(x,n). g has the properties: n > 0, x lies on the
