Managing global/local variables when creating R packages
...re a way to
make a data frame or a set of variables available to all the functions
in a package but NOT to users? As it is, if users were to use the var
name of the data frame for something else, the data will be lost and
they'll have to rerun setup before creating their graphs.

help after DIAGNOSIS.txt
...#39;ve gone through all the steps in
DIAGNOSIS.txt.
Everything passes the tests until I get to step 9 on the particular
directory that won't attach (/home/tyvekkj). I can connect to the share
locally, just not from any PCs on my network. Here is the error I get on my
NT machine running V4:
\\bethany\tyvekkj
system error 67
Network name cannot be found
However, attaching to my other shares (\\bethany\tmp and
\\bethany\lhomsher) works fine.
I do not get a password prompt, but I tried setting up user=pcguest with
the same results.
Do you have any ideas or anything else I could check to find ou...

What exactly is top posting? I thought that was when someone responds

Windows XP SP2 doesn't login to SAMBA domain
Hello,
We have a samba server for our computer lab. Currently all the machines are
either windows 98 or windows 2000. The 98 machines are assigned to the
'INTRANET' workgroup, while the windows 2000 machines are part of the
'INTRANET' domain. We have no problems with this setup.
I'm now trying to deploy Windows XP (sp2) computers to this lab. I'm
constantly getting

R/FAME Interface

this in C:\Program Files\R - is that the correct place for it?
I am experienced in R (and getting there in FAME), but this is the first
time I have attempted to establish an interface between two languages -
as I am sure you can tell from my e-mail!
Thanks very much for your help.

browsing, subnets, across, workgroups
Why does browsing across subnets only work if all of the machines are in
the same workgroup?
We're really a unix and mac campus, but we're trying to support windows
machines by using a samba server to let them print and let the students
access a little chunk of disk space.
I've got a samba server set up as the workgroup SERVERS, and I've told it
to be a domain master, a

How to model repeated measures negative binomial data with GEE or GLMM
...Symm"
If anyone has tips for a) a GEE with a negative binomial family and/or b)
making sure I am specifying the random effect in a GLMM correctly to
account for multiple measures within and across years, that would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you from a self-taught but passionate R user!

panic when rejecting registration requests
Another, I assume unrelated, problem that we're seeing is that samba
panics every time the nmbd server rejects a registration request.
Go ahead and check out what the logs indicate, and if you have any advice,
please tell me. I've already submitted this to samba-bugs because that's
what they say to do for these errors.

Login scripts based on group
I have users that belong to several groups. I want a logon script to be
run for each of the groups to which a user belongs. For example, when I
logon, I want admin.bat, users.bat, and someothergroup.bat to run. On
Novell I used to use 'if Member of groupName...', but I don't know how
to do this in Samba..
Thanks,
Dean

Migration to Samba
I'm migrating to Samba on about 50 desktops. After I join the domain
(this is on Windows 2k or XP) I get a whole new set of settings (under
documents and settings). Is there a way to tell Windows to use the old
directory? It matches their username on samba if that helps. Note, I'm
using local profiles.
Thanks,
Dean
