Append/merge
I have a question about stacking datasets. I have 40 stata datasets that have exactly the same number of variables, with the same names (~420k rows, 8 columns). The datasets are relatively large ~ 15 megs. If they were text files a linux "cat file1 file2 >> combo" sort of strategy would work. I've considered using a merge command, but I don't want any records merged,

Fax with Asterisk and Sipura 2100
...Law only for the codec, etc. While I realize that no faxes going through passthrough like this will work 100% of the time, we currently have a less than 40% success rate with inbound faxes being the worst. Any insight anyone has would be greatly appreciated! Best Regards, -- Darrell S. Long BestWeb Corporation

Nagios and Asterisk
Does anyone have some decent Nagios scripts out there that do more than monitor the proc itself? Rather than reinvite the wheel, figured I'd ask. I already saw the one on the wiki. Matt

Asterisk and Snom 360
...Asterisk? We are trying to have the ability to view whether an extension is on or off hook, or ringing with the Snom, which seems to work fine. The issue is that we are having difficulty picking up calls and transferring. Anyone have experience / insight? Darrell S. Sipura 2100
...39;s take the same XML that we have come up with, but I am not sure of the syntax for specific things that I need these boxes to do, such as turning T.38 on. If anyone is willing to share their xml for autoprovisioning Sipura 2100's, it would be much appreciated. Best, -- Darrell S. Long BestWeb Corporation

Queue and SetGroup
I manage the PBX system for a medium sized call center. Where all calls are distributed via a few call Queues. However I am having an issue where reps are being distributed calls regardless of wether they are on a call. I have looked into using SetGroup but I don't think this works with Call Queues. I have also looked into incomingcalllimit and that seems to no longer work. Any sugestions?

predict assistance
I have a question regarding application of model coefficients between datasets. In particular, I have several datasets which I would like to apply a model estimated from only a single dataset (sort of a crude - out of sample application - to show the variances). lets say, names(a) [1] "stdnoi" "momentum" "tbm3" "metcons" "premium"

Receptionist Phones (was 3Com Phones)
Thanks for all the comments on the 3Com phones. Thankfully, there is a large number of phones out there to dig through looking for the right solution. What I have not been able to find, after spending all weekend looking, is a good solution for an attendant console. We have 2 receptionists that need to be able to view all 60+ phones (we could probably weed it down a bit if we had to,

paste doesn't appear to paste?

Sweave & xtable
I am just starting to learn Sweave (really neat tool). I am pretty early in the learning curve (I had to think a moment ago whether a # or % was the appropriate comment character). I have successfully incorporated simple graphics and outputs, but am having trouble getting a latex (xtable) table to function properly. Latex is seemingly treating the xtable code as input or verbatim text. That

combinations
I need to construct all possible combinations of an vector of length N taken X at a time for simulation purposes. Taking a a small vector as an example: >input <- c('a','b','c','d') >somefunction(input) a,b,c a,b,d a,c,d b,c,d my only solution thus far is: somefunction <- function(x){ ...a series of grotesque and horribly inefficient loops

Equations as arguments to functions
I am trying to pass an equation as an arguement to a function, which seems pretty straightforward given lazy evaluation. I constructed the following little test to make sure I sort of knew what I was doing: go <- function(X,eq) { C <<- X*2; d <<- eq} a _ rnorm(100) go(10,eq=a[.5*length(a)]+C+1) > C [1] 20 > d [1] 21.10551 > a[.5*length(a)] [1] 0.1055086 Everything

function design
I have a, no doubt, simple question. I wish to write a function such that a <- 9 b <- 10 changer _ function(x,y) { if (y>x){ x <<- Y+1}} Of course there are easier ways to accomplish the task above, but I am more interested in how to have the "x <<- Y+1" part of the function to change x in place for purposes of a much larger function. I have been wrestling with

Receptionist phones
I've been playing with Asterisk for a few weeks and it's working great. I have a question about getting multi-line receptionist phones working. I was thinking about getting one of these expansion ports: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_data_sheet0 9186a008008883d.html What are people using for receptionist phones that show all the extensions in
