www.shorewall.net/ftp.shorewall.net Moving
The system hosting www.shorewall.net and ftp.shorewall.net is moving from Bellevue to Seattle on Sunday Evening. So as to avoid downtime, I have temporarily switched these two DNS names to the server here in my home. Once the move has been completed, I will be switch my DNS configuration to point to the new server in Seattle. In the mean time, I suggest that you use a mirror if...

efficient filtering of matrices
I was wondering if someone can tell me the best way to search through a matrix and choose certain rows (based on certain conditions) to put into a separate matrix. What I have tried so far is very slow for a large dataset I'm working with. e.g., I have this piece of code to create a new matrix (newmat) based on my filtering conditions. Do I need to do this kind of thing where I keep

Samba for VMS
I just installed Samba for VMS (1.9.17p4) on a DecServer 1000A running VMS 7.1 The University Network is primarily NT Server 4.0 SP5. My experience is with Netware and NT, not with VMS, but I have the luck of supporting the system..... My main question is about Encrypted Passwords.....Does this release of Samba support them, or do I have to modify the clients who want access to our Alpha to

Named update for RH 4.2 exploitable?
Someone I was speaking with this evening claimed they have installed the latest named rpms yet they are still getting exploited daily and being hacked. Do the latest rpm''s for the named 4.9.x stuff fix all the root exploits or is this person just an idiot who probably has holes elsewhere in the system?
