CentOS 5.4 and BitTorrent
If I remember correctly, when version 5.3 was released, about 95% was made available by BitTorrent before the official release date, so that the entire file would be available as soon as possible after the release. Could the same be done this time? -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca> "Yves Bellefeuille: Eterna malvenkanto en UEA" -- Heroldo Komunikas, n-ro 389

Donation programme
...ision about the donation programme? The Web page still says: "If you are looking to make a cash dontation to the CentOS Project, please check back here after August 15th, 2009." I assume that donations aren't refused, but is there a suggested amount, as there used to be? -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca> "Yves Bellefeuille: Eterna malvenkanto en UEA" -- Heroldo Komunikas, n-ro 389

Install CentOS 7 on MBR hard disk
I have a UEFI system, but I want to install CentOS on a MBR (not GPT) hard disk. The installation program keeps telling me that I must create an "EFI system partition on a GPT disk mounted at /boot/efi". I can't find a way to work around this. Is there a solution? -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

AMD Ryzen and CentOS
...r being as 7 is > based on a newer kernel. I've installed CentOS 7 with the latest kernel from elrepo (4.11.8), and I can't get Grub to install. I think I'll have to conclude that it really doesn't work with Ryzen. :-( Debian seems to work, so I'll try it for a while. Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

...ill doesn't work properly. I'm using CentOS 6 but I'll switch to CentOS 7 if that will help. (But I assume that if installing the latest kernel didn't help, neither would going to CentOS 7.) Any suggestions? Is it known whether the next version will work properly with Ryzen? Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

KeePassX replacement
I have been using the KeePassX password manager on CentOS 6 and 7 for some time and it works pretty well. On my Windows machine I use KeePass which offers a number of features missing from KeePassX, I also sync the database between several machines, including Android units where I use keepass2android. Database compatibility is thus required. KeePassX, however, does not seem to be maintained any

Installing a single rpm package from desktop/browser on CentOS 7
Unfortunately, the GUI isn't quite set up to tell you what the error would be. When you use `$ sudo yum install whatever.rpm`, the output in the shell will often give you a clue as to what's going wrong--a missing dependency, etc. -- Seth. On my Acer Aspire One 522 (two-core AMD C-50 1.0 GHz processor with 2 GB of RAM), CentOS 6 is noticeably smoother than Windows 7. Windows uses the battery more efficiently, however. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

I just wanted to disagree that you need better hardware for Linux than for Windows, or at least for CentOS 6 than Windows 7. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

Install CentOS 7 on MBR hard disk
...oader-mbr-gpt-x86 carefully, it seems to say that if you have UEFI and an MBR hard disk that already has partitions, you must reformat it to GPT. The documentation seems to say that Anaconda will use MBR only if the disk is the right size (fewer than 2^32 sectors) *and* has no partition. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

The information on EPEL's site basically says to submit it myself, but that's above my capabilities. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

Updating information on Skype in HowTo
Hello: My user name is YvesBellefeuille. I'd like to edit the information on using Skype under CentOS 6 at http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype . The current information is based on http://www.openfusion.net/2009/09/19#fn.html , which was written in 2009 and is no longer accurate. Here are two examples: (1) it's no longer ne...

Skype's no-redistribution policy

Installing a single rpm package from desktop/browser on CentOS 7
If I want to install a software package from a simple rpm file "the GUI way" on a CentOS 7 system, what am I supposed to do? If I open the file in the desktop, or alternatively, click on a link to a package in the browser and tell it to use the default app, gnome-software (I think) opens, but it just displays the message Sorry, something went wrong I mean, really? Isn't this
