"eval" inside a function call in connection with updating the data slot in the call of lmer
...Given a linear mixed model (from lme4) I want to 1) first change the input dataset and then 2) change the model formula. I want this to happen in a function call;
Please see below. Options 1) and 2) below work whereas 3) fails with the message
> foo()
Error in is.data.frame(data) : object 'beets2' not found
Question: What is it one must to in case 3) to have R look "inside" the function to figure out what "beets2" is?
Best regards

My turn at building a custom kernel for IPsec BEET mode
Well I am working on building a kernel that will have the IPsec BEET
mode patch available from infrahip.hiit.fi.
I have some decent help, but really no one there is a seasoned Centos
kernel builder (though they work with different FC kernels), and now
they are mostly done for the day.
I have been following the wiki on building a custom kernel, got my patch
in ~/rpmbuild/SOURCES and away with

Custom build kernel patch fails big time.
I am trying to build a custom kernel for the HIPL code
(infrahip.hip.fi), using the patch for the Linux 2.6.18 kernel. I
followed all the instructions for getting the kernel source and making a
custom kernel provided on the wiki. The rpmbuild fails with the
following messages:

OpenChrome video driver for Centos
I can find xorg-x11-drv-openchrome-0.2.901-1 for EL5,
but not the current xorg-x11-drv-openchrome-0.2.903-1 (which only goes
from FC8 on).
Since my OQOs have the CX700M2 chip and there are listed enhancements
for this chip in the 903 version, I would really like to get it...

Kernel source - linux -2.6.18 i386 or i686
As I plow through the Kernel source to figure out why the BEET patch is
not working, I notice that there are two similar directories under
~/rpmbuild/BUILD/kernel-2.6.18:
linux-2.16.18.i386 and linux-2.16.18.i686
So which one am I suppose to be patching?
Currently, the patch starts out with:
diff -urN a/net/ipv4/xfrm4_input.c b/net/ipv4/xfrm4_input.c
I followed the kernel source setup

question on /etc/defaults
My colleague, doing the HIPL development, principally uses ubuntu and
although he is now building the Fedora/Centos rpms for me, he leaves
much of the testing to me.....
Anyway for any kernel prior to 2.6.27, I have to run the hip code in
userspace, not kernel space. This is due to the ESP BEET patch. There
is a specific hipd for userspace, but the hipfw requires a different
option. For a

superclass mismatch for class OrderedOptions
I have Rails 1.1.2 installed and froze my app to 1.0 by checking it out
into the vender directory. Maybe it''s coincidence, but now when trying
to do rake migrate I get this:

HIP rpms for Centos 5.2
For anyone that is interested in looking at HIP, I have posted the
latest HIP build on my server:
http://htt-consult.com/~rgm/hip/
You don't need the src rpm, the others will do.
Since we do not have the IPsec ESP BEET mode patch
(http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-nikander-esp-beet-mode-09.txt)
for the 2.6.18 kernel (it is in the 2.6.27 kernel), we have to run HIP
in userspace.

RHEL 5.3 Beta released, beta-testers needed
Hi all,
The CentOS community is pretty limited in what we can do to the core
distribution. Since our mantra is "aiming to be 100% compatible with Red
Hat Enterprise Linux" we cannot fix bugs or improve the CentOS core
without waiting for Red Hat to make those modifications first. We have
limited leverage and a 6-month release cycle against us.
But that is not the complete truth,

smbclient/mount question
This is driving me up the wall. I've had a basic samba server up for a
couple of years and it was easy to do. Now with a second server I try to
mount the same shares from the new linux box but I can get nothing to
work. I would use NFS between the linux boxes but the support isn't
compiled into my kernel, and I don't want to tackle that beast tonight...
To test I tried the smbclient

Problem with Asterisk + TDM410 FXO
Hi
I am in the middle of move a small business over from legacy PABX + PSTN
lines to VOIP infrastructure.
I borrowed a spa9000 to place between the PABX and the PSTN lines. I
have had this going for a while (>5 months) and it has been working fine
(some issues with echo and other minor things), which is why I am moving
to asterisk.
I bought a tdm410 with 3 fxo + fxs. The fxs is connected to

kolmogorov-smirnov for discrete ordinal scale data
Hi,
I was wondering whether there is an implementation of the
Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness of fit test for discrete, ordinal scale data
in R - I've only managed to find the test for continuous data.
Thanks!

CentOS Dojo and Barbecue - Aldershot, UK on 12th July 2013
Hi,
The next CentOS Dojo is coming to Aldershot, UK - a 45 min train ride
from London Waterloo station - on the 12th July 2013. We have a great,
and growing list of speakers already on the agenda, and another few
waiting to confirm.
And, the venue sponsors - catn.com - are going to organise a hog roast
barbecue and beet for everyone attending once the talks are done (
4pm'ish ). So another

Wxruby & RMagick
Hello list,
Has anyone done any work combining WxRuby and RMagick? In Python,
it is possible to convert a PythonMagick image to a Wx::Image and
display it. However, unsurprisingly, the APIs are different in Ruby.
Google didn''t turn up anything. Has anyone on the list worked with
WxRuby and RMagick?
Thanks,
Jacob

On the other hand, Windows 2003 servers tend to boss it
over everybody below their rank, so when you switch from
w2k3 to samba your client might be wasting their time
trying to talk ads to the now absent server. I'm not
sure your numbers are relevant under these c...

Failure building any package
Hello,
I'm attempting to build a package using R 2.15.0 on OS X
I am getting a generic failure when performing a cran type check on the package. Even with a very simple test package, it still fails int he same place.
Example:
In R:
rm(list=ls())
foo <- function(x){print(x)}
package.skeleton(name="foo")
Then, at the command line:
R CMD build foo
R CMD check --as-cran

Fixing corrupt flac files
Hi,
since years I simply encoded my CDs using various tools to flac and simply
listened to it and never had any problems.
Today I wrote a little script though to add replaygain values to my music
collection and I found out that a lot of my flac files are corrupt.
The corruption almost always occurs in the last 10% like

Fixing corrupt flac files
...l I'm not sure because those file that are corrupt have been around for a
quite long time. It could have been k3b but I'm really not sure. Right now I
was ripping with Audex and tagging with Audex/Amarok/kid3. Those files seem to
be fine though.
My lates approaches have been with Picard/beets :-)
I think it's not possible to share those files without getting in legal trouble
here or is it possible somehow to extract some information so it won't be an
issue?
