elements that appear only once
Hi. I have a factor and I want to extract just those elements that appear exactly once. How to do this? Toy example follows. > a <- as.factor(c(rep("oak",5) ,rep("ash",1),rep("elm",1),rep ("beech",4))) > a [1] oak oak oak oak oak ash elm beech beech beech beech Levels: ash beech elm oak > table(a) a ash beech elm oak 1 4 1 5 > So I would want "ash" and "elm", because there is only one ash and only one elm in my wood...

Nested design
Dear list members, I'd like to perform a glm analysis with a hierarchically nested design. In particular, I have one fixed factor ("Land Use Classes") with three levels and a random factor ("quadrat") nested within Land Use Classes with different levels per classes (class artificial = 1 quadrat; class crops = 67 quadrats; and class seminatural = 30 quadrats). I have four

...erent aged woodlands. Thus, we have a nested design with 2 fixed groups (0=recent, 1=ancient) and 10 woodlands (each with 8 replications/traps) per fixed group. Woodland is therfore nested within the fixed variable. In an additional step we want to calculate these procedure with a covariate called beech (this means the percentage of beech in these woods). Our approach: lme(biomass~age, random=~woods/age)? What is the syntax for this model in R? MixMonitor with non-20ms packets
Hi, MixMonitor saves partial conversation when non-standard voice packet size is set (Asterisk 1.4.18.1). For example, if SIP-peer has alaw:30 then saved file would contain only 67% of total conversation. With alaw:20 MixMonitor saves 100% of conversation. It seems that MixMonitor has hardcoded "packets per second" or "samples per packet" values. I did a lot of googling, but

Trying to format a floppy (perhaps with bad blocks) i get: Processing fdformat: ioctl(FD_FORM): Device not configured instead of the normal E letter. I then checked the same problem is present on FreeBSD-6.3 and it has been reported by Beech Rintoul (*) in 2006! Of course the floppy disk driver is particularly messy, but this is not pretty. Random intercept model with time-dependent covariates, results different from SAS
Dear list-members I am new to R and a statistics beginner. I really like the ease with which I can extract and manipulate data in R, and would like to use it primarily. I've been learning by checking analyses that have already been run in SAS. In an experiment with Y being a response variable, and group a 2-level between-subject factor, and time a 5-level within-subject factor. 2
