Still on 2.2.2 becuase of printer driver problems with 2.2.7a
Greetings and Happy New Year,
My samba print server is still running 2.2.2 and I've not been able to
upgrade it past that point. I have not been able to get the printer drivers to
behave properly in ANY later version.
Currently I am testing Samba 2.2.7 running under Solaris 9. I have been
using HP Laserjet 4000 and 8150 postscript drivers in my testing. I am seeing
two distinct

The system cannot log you on now becuase the domain iis unavailable on XP Pro.
Yes I am using XP Pro. I have joined the XP machine to the domain
successfully. I am running Samba 2.27 on RHL 9. Whenever I log on to the
machine and attempt a domain logon, I am told that the domain is
unavailable. I have searched google many times with many permutations and
have not found an accurate solution to this problem. I have Win95 and 98
machines which log on without any trouble.

Is = now the same as <- in assigning values
I?m a PhD student at the University of Warsaw, and have started using R.
In many books they specify to use <- instead of = when assigning
values, and this is also mentioned in older posts on the R website.
However, it seams to me that some update has occured, becuase I
continously get the same result wether I use <- or =.
I would be extremely helpful for any answer to this.
= seams more intuitive, so I assumed that an update had been made due
to popular demand and that was why I get the same output wether I use
<- or =.

ownership
not sure if i misunderstood the documentation but my understanding is
the -a option preserves ownership and permissions on transfer.
i did a remote test and i see ownership changed
is that becuase user does not exist in the remote box
4.0K drwxr-xr-x 14 zoe zoe 4.0K 2007-07-15 08:08 zoe
but in the remote system they changed to
4.0K drwxr-x--- 8 boricua users 4.0K 2007-05-02 11:07 zoe/
in source box i was root and loged in as boricua to remote box.

WINS, must be master browser?
i have an NT4 server and a linux samba server. the NT4 server is
currently the WINS server. it works perfectly. i want to ditch it and
use my samba server as the WINS server, however WINS simply does not
work. could this be becuase the WINS server also needs to be the local
master browser?
here is the global section of my smb.conf

workgroup = laboratory
os level = 2
kernel oplocks = No

Portable USB headset for VoIP
...traveling and using
Firefly or another softphone.
I'm currently using a Logitech headset which works well (except the echo
it generates toward the other caller when I turn up the gains too high),
but it just doesn't carry well - in fact, I can't carry it in my laptop
case any more just becuase it doesn't fit and it was getting very beat up.
I'd like to find something which folds up and is designed for travel. It
has to be USB sicne I don't have a MIC in (just line) on my laptop.
Any ideas?

install totaly messed up
...d I got the following error.
> preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00110000-60000000
> Segmentation fault (core dumped)
This same script worked perfectly well on the old server but its just not having it on this server.
the script is obviously trying to run as root from the website becuase of the "/root/.wine" part of the error I mentioned above when I imagine it should be running as the account user becuase the account user also has a .wine folder in my home folder "/home/mysite/.wine"
can anyone offer any advice on getting this to run as the normal user without...

[LLVMdev] Using StartJnjvmWithJIT from jnjvm.cpp in VMKit
Hi
Does anybody use *StartJnjvmWithJIT* from jvjvm.cpp in VMKit?
Becuase , I am looking to use without JIT when we are running the Java
byte code. My concern is StartJnjvmWithJIT getting three argument *int
argc, char** argv, char* mainClass* - why we need to pass *argv and
mainclass* arguments here?
please help me on this.

Sri.

Burning DVD with files>4GB from console
My backup script split filesystem dumps to files with size of 4,37 GB (4
588 544 kB). It's just an optimal size to fill out DVDs. At this moment
I have to burn them from windows via smb-link becuase I didn't manage to
do this task from FreeBSD console due to 2GB/4GB filesize restrictions
(growisofs). I'm using freeware CDBurnerXP to burn my backups
(ISO9660/UDF/Joliet), and they mount without problems on my FreeBSD BOX,
files are fully readable too. However, burning gigabytes of da...

New libpng in c2d4u3.5 breaks many other packages
...ds: libmagickwand-dev (=
8:6.7.7.10-6ubuntu3.9) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
The problem is that a few hours ago a version of libpng1.6 was
published to c2d4u3.5 which is not compatible with the version of
imagemagick in trusty. Becuase libmagick++ is installed by default on
Travis, this breaks almost all installations.
I think it's best to only publish R packages in c2d4u, not system libs.

Apache/PHP Security Help.
...getting hacked and I'm not
sure how the person is getting in. What's happening is that every few
days, the below script will show up in /tmp as 'dc.txt', owned by apache
and then a TON of mail is queued up to a bunch of addresses in
@uol.com.br.
I initially thought they got in becuase I had an outdated version of
'gallery' installed. I rebuild the server and update gallery and
thought I should be okay. But now they are still getting in and instead
of blindly rebuilding the server, I need to figure out how they are able
to run perl scripts on the server.
Any sugges...

Dynamic Programming in R
...re people out there who had expereinced success at using R for such applications. I'd rather continue in R than learn Mathlab.
A concern that has been cited that may discourage R use for solving dynamic programs is its memory handling abilities. A senior researcher had a lot of trouble with R becuase on any given run it would eat up all the computers memory and need to start using the hard disk. Yet, the memory needed was not substantial - saving the worksapce, exiting and recalling would noticebly start of tthe progam at a much lower memory use, level and a quick deteroration in a few thousand...

[nbdkit PATCH] eval: Allow user override of 'missing'
A comment in the code mentioned something that didn't actually work,
but which can be useful for user-directed logging of what other
callbacks they might want to implement.

I haven't pushed this one, becuase I'm not sure if we want it; but it
was easy enough to whip together after an IRC question earlier today.

[PATCH] xfstests: unmount scratch mnt in test 307
...we have
SCRATCH_DEV_POOL="/dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sdc"
we will turn this into
SCRATCH_DEV="/dev/sda"
SCRATCH_DEV_POOL="/dev/sdb /dev/sdc"
and then when you mkfs this you do _scratch_mkfs $SCRATCH_DEV_POOL which turns
into this
mkfs.btrfs /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sda
becuase we do
mkfs $* $SCRATCH_DEV
Then btrfs will always show the lowest devid in /proc/mounts to maintain
consistency, so even though we do mount /dev/sda $SCRATCH_MNT, you will see
/dev/sdb as the mounted device in /proc/mounts. So then say the next test wants
to just use $SCRATCH_DEV, it will do _re...

Upgrade
I recentlry tried to upgrade to 2.8.0. I ended up uninstalling 2.7.2 and installing 2.8.0 becuase the line in the FAQ states:
That's a matter of taste. For most people the best thing to do is to uninstall R (see the previous Q), install the new version, copy any installed packages to the library folder in the new installation, run update.packages(checkBuilt=TRUE, ask=FALSE) in the new R an...
